My confidence is based on my record of achievements thus far. I immigrated to United States with my mother, in a single parent household, at the age of eight. Not speaking any English, I ended up graduating High School with Honors, and Magna Cum Laude from College. Living with my mother and my grandmother, who both did not know any English, could not help me with schoolwork. I went through the ups and downs of hope and despair as her condition initially improved and ultimately worsened. She passed away on August 5, 2016. During this process I desperately wanted to help my grandmother in any way that I could. The knowledge that I had gained in my anatomy, physiology, and nutrition courses was helpful, but not enough. I wanted to get out there and learn more. I gained some experience through shadowing a Physician Assistant, trying to pay even closer attention in the classroom, doing research, and reading scientific journals. As a result, I finalized my decision to choose Physician Assistant as a
