How has your healthcare experience and/or community service activities influenced your decision to become a Physician Assistant?
During my time with the Excell Education Pre-Physician Assistant Clerkship, I was able to serve the geriatric population by assessing their quality of life at the nursing home. After rounding on the residents, I spent my free time exchanging stories with the residents. In the beginning, I struggled to find the right balance between school, a job, extracurriculars, my family, and friends. After attempting various learning methods, such as one-on-one tutoring and seeking extra help from teacher's assistants, I discovered my preferred learning style included self-learning and study groups. My approach consists of prioritizing my academics and utilizing an organized time management system. I know this method works for me because I have been able to successfully apply it to my graduate studies. Moreover, I now follow a structured study plan in which I review course materials before and after lecture so that I am fully engaged in class, all of which has prepared me to be a successful PA …show more content…
My greatest strength is that I am a compassionate person; I am easy to approach and I am a good listener. I have been told that I am a person who can empathize with others, and consequently, people find comfort in sharing their stories with me. Compassion is an important characteristic for a physician assistant to possess because patients should be able to feel comfortable in the care they are receiving during their most vulnerable state. Also, as a student, I am very inquisitive and eager to learn new things. I am constantly reading up on the news whether it is about the country's economy or an article on art history. In healthcare, it is vital to stay up to date with current medical practices so that the patient receives the best quality of
