I am currently pursuing a Bachelor in Science Majoring in Biology and I will continue my education by receiving a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. I chose to major in Biology because I would benefit from the information to pursue my masters and it would help me get into the medical program. My total economic cost and benefit is $2,270,011.58. The first trade off I made was becoming a doctor or a physician assistant. Since I will be the one paying for my education I decided to become a physician assistant. I debated about not going to college and working a full time job until I earned enough money to get into medical school. The biggest trade off that encouraged me to go to college was the salary I was making as a full time worker and the salary I would make as a physician assistant. To become a doctor it takes four years of medical school, three to six years of residency, and more years to specialize. While becoming a physician assistant takes two to three years of medical school. Which means I will be taking out less student loans! Another big reason, I decided to become a physician assistant is the lateral mobility of being capable of switching between different specialties without more schooling, instead of only specializing in one. By 2030 “Non-primary care specialties are expected to experience a shortfall of between 33,500 and 61,800 physicians.” Becoming a physician assistant increases access to health care and since the shortage of physicians the past years it also benefits the economy. I also help reduce the work for a doctor, so they can see more patients. Becoming a physician allows me to provide quality care that is cost effective. By becoming a physician assistant I will help contribute to the economic need of more doctors, physician assistants, and
