Everyone is on their toes, making sure to avoid the people coming at them. Each move must be as precise and accurate as human error can allow. Muscles burn and oxygen seems to be depleting quickly, but we keep pushing ourselves, up until the final second. I have to keep my head up to make sure I don’t miss a step, because if I do, disaster is sure to strike. We release the final push and leave ourselves gasping for air. Our time on the field is over now. Whether we won or not, we’re satisfied because we left everything on the field, and no feeling is greater. This is bigger than me. This is bigger than the people next to me, or my friends, or anyone participating. This is marching band. Marching band may not appear that exhausting, but all those who have ever marched would …show more content…
My strong belief that sports were so much better than music slowly began to fade. I fell in love with the late Tuesday night practices, constantly repping set after set until my feet were essentially on auto pilot. Friday nights swiftly became what I would look forward to at the end of the week, as opposed to weekends. Supporting the football team while having a great time in the stands seems to me the best way to spend a night. Saturday competitions brought me to life because that was when everyone was there to support us. The stadiums would erupt into mammoth applause as the colossal red flag passed over the band as we hit the last chord. We were the main show and it was time for us to showcase our hard work. Basketball slowly became my secondary activity. I was a band kid, and I was certainly not ashamed of

Memoir Rough Draft While everyone starts to complain about school starting, I was already at school before August for marching band. Day in and day out, all of us worked our hardest, having fun, helping out, and getting to know each other well. It was hot, many times over a hundred degrees, although sometimes it felt worse, as if we were getting baked in the warm sun rays. However, we were there for a purpose, and we all shared a common goal, a dream, to become better as a marching band. Of course we were exhausted, after long hours, but I owe my life to band for making me who I am.…

Iclesias Phanord Breaking the Norm I’m surrounded by bouncing basketball and expectations. I had not yet found my vocation. However, many people around me had; whether it was basketball, cheerleading, or track - they had found a purpose that drove them. One thing coach loves doing, making sure I know how much I am accountable for. There is no comment to explain to me of how dependent I am on these upcoming moments for the team, so don’t make it any worse. To start off and to have the power to set the tone of the whole inning.…

I was finally free. I had more free time, less stress, and had lost the feeling of sweat dripping down my back. Quitting marching band was one of the best decisions I had ever made, and even though I was happy to be free, I had reservations about quitting. In my mind, band was where I would find people I identified with, but in reality, I didn’t find anyone who shared my interests. I longed to find a group that I fit in with.…
