Ever since I was a child, I’ve aspired to be many things. I’ve gone from dreaming of becoming a NFL player, a lawyer, a doctor, to most recently, a biomedical engineer. Due to having many lifetime goals, one would say I’m an ambitious person. Having a passion for a wide array of activities is an identity that defines me in an essential way. Although many people only prefer either mathematics or writing, I’m one of the few that enjoys both subjects. This is why I participate in extra-curricular activities like UIL Journalism and Robotics Club. In UIL Journalism, the judge gives us a handout that has quotes from people involved in a fiction story provided to us, and it’s our job to piece together a news article. I particularly like how I’m able to craft a lengthy news piece from several short quotes. To me, it’s like pieces of …show more content…
From marching in the scorching hot summer to playing under the Friday night lights, band is an integral part of my life. I have met so many wonderful individuals who have the same passion for music as I do. The summer of my freshman year, I attended my first marching camp. At first, I didn’t know anyone and was afraid of not fitting in. However, by the end of that camp, I can honestly say that the people I met there are like a second family. Placing first in competitions has only strengthened the bond of our relationships. We learn teamwork, self-discipline, and to be the best we can be through these competitions. The moment following our performance during one of the competitions was the most thrilling part of all. The drum major had just cut the band off, and before I could even catch my breath, the applause from the crowd instantly filled the stadium. Hundreds of people were standing, cheering, and shouting our names from the bleachers as we marched off the football field. Just thinking about these moments gives me the chills. I’m certain these memories will last a

The outdoor setting of marching band fosters the flashiness and untamed passion required to make an emotional bond with far-away audiences. Each year in my marching band, I embraced the opportunities to learn new show tunes and skills for front ensemble, bass drum, snare drum, and then tenor drums. My love for marching band has influenced my personal musical selections. My favorite band is the funky brasshouse trio, Too Many Zooz. I would love to form a musical group while in college.…

I hate marching band. Leaving that trap of a class was the best decision I made in my entire high school experience. Once I had had enough of band, I joined theater. Joining theater fit my schedule well, introduced me to new people, and opened my mind to possibilities I hadn't considered before. The time I wasted in marching band was grueling.…

During my 8th grade year, I had joined band searching for a chance of belonging. I had discovered, however, that band is more than just having a group of people to hang out with. Since I joined about two years later than most, practicing became a requirement. Every night I went home and rehearsed for hours, just so I wouldn’t fall further behind. About 500 blown-out reeds and two broken oboes later…

Conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a 2014 survey shows that there are only about 173,300 available musician occupations in the United States (“Musicians and Singers”). Meanwhile, there are about 35,000 high schools in the country with bands ranging from 20 to 400 members (“High School”). This difference in numbers does not constitute the amount of musicians there are in the nation, let alone the world. Many musically inclined individuals begin to prosper in high school band, which then leads to the overall passion for music. Aside from this passion, being involved in such programs has additional benefits to the musician.…

Marching band has been the most enriching activity that I have ever been a part of. When I first came to high school I was scared, marching band allowed me to make friends and have a wonderful freshmen year experience. I was new to a school as a sophomore because my family moved across the country, marching band was able to make me feel at home in this new place and allowed me to adjust more quickly. As I grew older I received leadership positions in the band, junior year being a Uniform Officer, in charge of the uniforms for the 300 person band, and senior year a trumpet section leader, in charge of the 30 person trumpet section. I have learned much from marching band, including but not limited to; team work, marching band is the ultimate…

Who knew that band in high school had such a surprise in store for the new students. On top of the changes from middle school to high school already being terrifying. My experiences throughout high school band were enjoyful, prideful, and exhausting. Starting from the fun treats that band came with, to the long hot sweaty hours spent on the football field practicing our hearts out for every football game. This summer, I worked at a summer camp in Maine and helped a college football player gain academic eligibility. I did not expect to be in that position, but it was a rewarding and humbling experience. I met him at the beginning of summer during an introduction exercise. He told me that he was attending a Junior College because, after he dropping out of his first college, it was his only chance to earn his way back to division one football. I wished him luck and did not think much of it until I saw him studying alone in the dining hall a few weeks later.…

To be in a marching band, one has to almost become one with the band. The instrument played is not a single aspect, but a part of a much larger whole that must be comfortable and confident together. When I first joined the band, I was not one of the more comfortable and confident people that fit in with everyone else. Most all band members are loud and proud of who they are, compared to myself, who always hid behind others and hated being the center of attention. However, almost everyone has that moment when they realize that everybody else is just as self conscious, just as scared, and just as awkward as they are.…
