Personal Narrative: The Game

“Alright now Skin, I need you to be my leadoff here and get a rally going!” I do not respond, because I obviously know how important this one at bat is for the team and for myself. One thing coach loves doing, making sure I know how much I am accountable for. There is no comment to explain to me of how dependent I am on these upcoming moments for the team, so don’t make it any worse. To start off and to have the power to set the tone of the whole inning. I have never studied on another human being as much as I did the pitcher that I was soon to be up against. During the summer before this season he was on the same team as me and we really enjoyed the game with the same intensity, but now he is the only person who can stop me from not getting on base. …show more content…
Him knowing that I still do have a hard time with it also did not help the situation,” I told myself before stepping into the batter's box. “Now try and block everything out, without thinking of blocking everything out too hard, because there cannot be any room for cloudiness in my head.” Telling myself over and over that I will put the ball in play, no matter if I have to keep my shoulder in on a curveball and drive it to the right side. Jake Glover, the only person in my way of getting on base does have an above average curveball and he did not want me to be knowledgeable of it. The official nod before the at bat unfolds between Jake and I set the tone of the amount of respect we have towards each other at this

As soon as I take a step out on the field, I forget everything outside of baseball. Before every game, I warm up by taking ground balls. As simple and meaningless as this sounds, it is one of my favorite things to do. Every single ground ball I field, I field with passion. Each one means something.…

I was preparing myself by going over every situation in my head. The other team bunted and got a runner on first. The blood was pumping through my veins I knew the girl was stealing and I was ready to throw her out. My eyes widen as I looked at my coach to get the sign, it was a change up. I knew it was going to be a lot harder to throw her out on a change up.…

I could already see both men getting into their stances. The batter rising, back straightening, almost cutting through me with his eyes as he waited for the ball. The catcher sinking down, ready to catch the ball as it would pass my opponent. I almost threw out my shoulder as I extended my arm, releasing the ball with the motion. “Strike one,” a voice rang through the air.…

There is a certain rhythm to the game that I love. I find my grip on the ball, slide my foot across the mound, rock my arm back, and propel it forward with all my might. The ball flies through the air; sliding or rising or diving as I command it to. It finds its way to the catcher’s glove, and it is quickly returned to me. I pace around the circle, finding my place on the…

My first baseball game ever had been off to a tremendous start; until my next at bat. After my first at bat, I was riding my high horse thinking I was going to get another hit and make my dad proud all over again. I stepped into the white caulk batter’s box, and went through it all again. As the pitch came in, I noticed it seemed to be coming towards me instead of down the middle. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I stayed right where I was; and got…

Oblivious to indications of what the pitcher will do next, bones walked me through his career as a pitcher. It’s a dance, every position of a pitcher is a decision, body language and facial expression speak louder than words. It took some time but I picked up on gestures from my teammates in the pitcher’s mound like the fatal mistake of letting their grip on the ball show as they windup or the shift in hips when the want to try a pickoff. From there on out I’ve tried to pay more attention to cues in my everyday life, always looking for the next fast ball down the middle. The last thing I learned from my first coach was to have a “short memory”, being one of the most memorable pieces of advice I have ever received.…

¨Perseverance is the secret of all triumphs¨-Victor Hugo, this quote explains what my story is really about how I persevered through one of the most nerve racking games I have ever played in in my life. This game meant so much to me because I had to make my family proud, there was 100+ college and pro scouts there, and I had to pick up the win for my team. This was one of the best times in my life to test what I have been working for my whole life and to test my perseverance towards the game of baseball. The game of baseball is 60% failure, so there is a good chance you're going to have a bad game but I knew I could not let this game be a failure, this game went towards everything I have been working for my whole life.…

Being the batter in the bottom of the ninth inning of the championship game, with two outs, bases loaded, and down by one run is both a baseball player’s most glorious dream and most onerous nightmare. This dream was my opportunity as I stepped up to the plate in the Delaware Regional Senior League championship game. The few metal bleachers near home plate at Leroy Hill Park were packed with families from all around Delaware, meanwhile those without a space set up lawn chairs around the outfield fence. Every single person at the field, whether they have played baseball since they 6 years old or have never even watched a game before, could feel the tension while the pitcher, an average-height 17 year old, proceeded into his stretch to deliver the pitch.…
