The case I chose was Pedro Espinoza trial in the Murder of Jamiel Shaw because it has been such a hot topic in the media and I wanted to know more about it. Espinoza was an Illegal alien from Mexico with a long and violent criminal history and part of the 18 St gang and had just been released from serving 4 months of an 8-month sentence. Within 28 hours he murdered 17-year-old high school football star being recruited by Stanford Jamiel Shaw with one shot to the stomach and then execution style shot to the head. The Shaw family and prosecuting attorney where seeking the death penalty over life in prison. To get the death penalty the prosecuting attorney had to prove special circumstances by way of gang ties. Why or how did the special order 40 not been followed through Espinoza’s long violent criminal history to deport him? If he had a long and violent past and gang affiliation why was he let out 4 months early from a crime with a gun charge and an assault on police officers? Was he not put on house arrest with an electronic tracker for probation? If not, why? With so many sub-stories in this case it would take a book to cover them all and it is very easy to get distracted by them. It is good reason to because it brings up a lot of issues about why we are not enforcing the laws we already have on the books? Are Politian’s failing in keeping us safe for their own personal gain? I believe in cause and effect and I personal believe the cause of the problems start with the Politian’s. The effect is Law Enforcement and Corrections are left holding the bag and are expect to come up with solutions. The losers of all this is the Shaw family and many others like them. They were crushed by their son’s death. I agree with Mr. Shaw and to summarize what he said.
