Jose Chavez is a 30-year-old Latino man born in Montebello, Ca moving to Lancaster, Ca due to his parents divorcing. Growing up his family consisted of three older sisters, mom and dad additions preceding the divorce of a step-mother, step-father & step-father. The new household in Lancaster, Ca consisted of one older sister, one step-sister (went to boarding school), step-mother, nephew and dad. His mother, step-father, and sister lived in Walnut, Ca. The oldest of the siblings lived in Lancaster, Ca as well fairly close to the dads’ resident.
Growing up his mother was over protective of Jose being the only son in the family. The mother used a passive parenting style whereas the dad used an authoritarian parenting style, this balanced out

Childhood environment of little support from his family and during adulthood along with overprotectiveness from his mother throughout his life (Bokszczanin, 2008). The constent conflict within his family created trauma of stress that resulted in his an HPA axis dysfunction resulting in higher risk of PTSD (Kidd, Hamer, & Steptoe, 2011). The typical Latino household environment the reaction to stress by men is not to show emotions and be the one who to take on all the responsibility to provide was a major factor (Triffleman & Pole, 2010). The scenario of his second marriage displayed this and triggered the symptoms of Jose’s PTSD to spiral out of control causing a downward spin. The overprotectiveness of his mother as a young boy and relocation in a stage of adolescence created some insecurities resulting in a diminished capability to deal with stress and release feelings. The influences and responsibilities of his second marriage prevented Jose to see the true importance of maintaining his medical treatment and did not allow the treatment to truly work. Alcoholism was a pre-disposition for Jose from both sides of his family which enhanced the effects of …show more content…
The hobbies Jose has resumed will help Jose to improve over time and hopefully be able to live a productive life. The life style of Jose needs to be a single status until he has acquired the necessary skills to cope with day to day stresses and effectively recognize and control his symptom triggers. The most important therapy that has not been tried and needed is family therapy to help with better understanding of his disorder. This therapy will help develop stronger support of the family and open up communication as a unit. The therapy needs to be the whole family, biological and add-on. Medications of Celexa and Mirtazapine would be prescribed to assist with the symptoms. If the insomnia subsides Mirtazapine may be reduced or eliminated. As for group therapy this would be an option decided by Jose and decided on once family therapy is under way. If a strong family support system is established outside of therapy with little stress or tension present Jose should be able to deal better with daily
