Organizational behavior covers a variety of topics and viewpoints that are related to the studies of behaviors of individuals or groups in the work place. The theory’s that branch out of organization behavior stem from a verity of places: sociology, leadership, psychology, and communication (Boundless, 2016). According to John Sydelle occupational sexism affects the work place by demoralizing the work force, creates unnecessary fear in the work place, and employees lose trust in the company if corrective action are not taken (2015). Stephanie Chaudire and Diane Quinn as cited by Rick Nauert (2010) asked 114undergraduates females to watch a video and to imagine that they were bystanders to what was happening. The video consisted of a man either calling a sexist remark or a simple greeting. The result based on the students being ask to rate their anxiety, depression and hostility level showed that women tended to feel more anger and motivation when their gender was called in to question. If sexism is allowed to prosper in the work place it will leave the employee with a sense of animosity and anger. This happens due to the failure to give each employee equal treatment and fair process. Fair process is a thought process that addresses the basic human needs, which are to be valued and respected (Kim and Mauborque as cited in HBR, 2011). It consist of three major principles; engagement – to have employee involvement/input, explanation – the reasoning, and expiation – how do we act (Kim and Mauborque as cited in HBR, …show more content…
The best way to do that is to be proactive instead of reactive to situation that take place. To be proactive is to have strategies and procedures in place in order to deal with situation before they occur. The supervisor will need to nip the team leader action in the bud and do so quickly. The environment the female lead in the scenario is creating is the opposite of safe. As the supervisor of this teams the first responsible would be to inform his or hers direct supervisory chain of what is happening in the workplace and to ensure that all legal requirements are being followed during the correction stage. This will avoid any one being blindsided later on if legal claims come down on the organization. The team leader will need to be pulled aside and told that her actions are inappropriate for the work place. Perhaps the leader has always acted this way and has not been told what is expected of her as a leader. Previous supervisor turned a blind eye or just let it slide for whatever the incorrect reasoning was. It may also come to light that there may be a deeper rooted cause to the team leader’s action.
