From the beginning of time, women were considered inferior to men -- whether it be in the workforce, or generally in the society. A patriarchy of sexes has always been instilled in the minds of individuals, where the man is on top of the pyramid. Although the views towards women have improved throughout the years, women, today, are still facing some misogynistic inequalities in the workforce, as well as unfair reproductive health care. Ever since the Second World War, women became more and more involved in the workforce, and have created a new image of themselves in the society. Now, plenty of women work in male-dominated areas, such as engineering, law, and medicine. Just because women can now work in those types of fields, they do not …show more content…
Unfortunately, women’s reproductive rights are being violated by Trump’s legislature. According to Rebecca Traister, “Trump himself wrote a letter to supporters promising that if elected, he would sign a nationwide ban on abortions after 20 weeks, defund Planned Parenthood, make permanent the Hyde Amendment—the legislative rider that prevents Americans from using federal insurance programs like Medicaid to pay for abortions —and nominate ‘pro-life justices’ to the Supreme Court”. Here many proponents of pro-life advocates would agree with Trump’s legislature, however, opponents would justify that the defunding of Planned Parenthood would mean taking away some of the women’s reproductive rights and overturning Roe vs Wade. If the GOP did overturn Roe vs Wade, women who want an abortion may turn to dangerous approaches -- just like in the early 18th century, when abortion was illegal. Quezzaire states, “Though Trump himself made many conflicting statements about his actual stance on abortion and other women's issues, critics noted that many of his chosen candidates for top government positions, including chief of the Department of Health and Human Services, held views at odds with the women's rights movement”. In other words, Quezzaire is explaining how women’s healthcare rights could be at stake, considering the majority of Trump’s legislature disapproves of free contraceptives and abortion.
