“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” (Winston Churchill). This quote exemplifies the adventure that adolescents face within the common theme of persisting through adversity. Although striving for success instigates difficulties, the process of maturing reveals ones skills through desperate situations. Discovering strengths and weaknesses influences personality through the maturing of one’s nature. Exploring this discovery develops character, scholarship, leadership, and service.
Through the process of maturing, one’s character begins to evolve. Character is peculiar values and intellectual views on life. It serves as an important feature of life by distinguishing personality types, as well as pairing certain people together. Without character, creative thinking would be minimal, and the idea of suiting a situation to fit oneself would not bring about challenges. Character is important in my life because it defines who I am as a human being. My character illustrates my personality as one that gives continual effort through the balance of my emotions and motivation. Within common activities that I spend time, such as school and hobbies, I find it is important to realize my character and be true to myself. Through school, my persistent attitude is demonstrated. However I experience the challenge of harmonizing my emotions, such as apprehension. Using past experiences, I have been able to determine how to channel my emotions into an activity that will calm them. Integrity is also found in my character. Being true to my emotions, as well as admitting my mistakes, help shape my nature. Learning from past situations is important for my growth as a person, and it will continue to influence my character. An important aspect of my character is striving to become a strong scholar. Scholarship is one’s accumulated knowledge through the process of learning and seeking academic achievements. It allows for the development among motivational attitudes and personalities. Without scholarship, achievements would exist on a basic level and the idea of competition wouldn’t instigate human minds. Considering my character of reaching my potential, I strive to become a scholar through academic, as well as personal achievements. My scholar-like personality is demonstrated through my success in school, such as my ability to maintain a GPA above 4.0. Even though my grades

Leadership is providing direction to a group of people that may be seeking or lacking greater information. Through powerful leaders, the ability to transfer knowledge among similar generations takes patience and clarity. Without the existence of strong examples, confusion and misunderstanding would occur in young minds. As my peers and I are beginning to mature, we are transitioning from being influenced by a leader to becoming an important role model to others. Leadership is exemplified in my life through influencing the lives of younger generations, as well as through personal achieved acts. Dedicating my time to teaching children, such as through babysitting and church activities, has taught me the benefit and strategy of successful leadership. However, I also demonstrate direction in the presence of short-term responsibilities, such as working effectively with my peers. As I become more comfortable with leadership opportunities, I find that I am striving to influence future generations. Since leaders share a variety of skills, it is important to analyze different leadership qualities, and consider that leaders offer influence in many different methods. Leadership can be directed with various approaches, but the strength of leadership accepts an array of diverse

National Honor Society (NHS) is built upon four key values (scholarship, character, leadership, and service), and I think that I exemplify all four of these values, as I show them through my contribution to the club now and as I will show them through my future officer position of secretary; due to the fact that I exhibit these qualities, I will also be able to leave NHS better than I found when I leave the club in the future. NHS has offered lots of service opportunities since I have joined the club, and it offers a challenging experience for the top students in the sophomore through senior classes; fifty hours must be completed by the end of the year for returning members, and fifty hours must be completed by the next school year for new members. The club ultimately instilled in me important and very useful life qualities. The service activities that must be completed improve my work ethic and ability to work in groups with others, and they also help me get involved more with my community. As a future officer, I would be a great example for members because I have all the qualities needed to be a great NHS leader, allowing me to contribute to NHS as much as I can and to also mold future members to be like myself.…
