During the past 15 years, I have aided my community in a multitude of ways. These include recycling, giving money to the poor, helping the injured, and giving my time to the needy. Even though the timeframe we are observing, between September of last year and today, may have a limited scope of all that I have dones, it does not mean I have not done anything. I have helped the needy and disadvantaged, saved the environment, and donated to organizations. I believe that, if I were accepted into the prestigious NHS, I could contribute my charity and intellect, and hopefully I can help the world through a national organization Within my current high school career, I have not had many opportunities to volunteer with anyone official, as you can see …show more content…
Last year I donated several dollars in order to help those in Flint receive the necessary water and goods they need. I also spent several dollars buying baked goods from the culinary club to aid in financing their endeavors. Finally I donate clothes and items to goodwill that I no longer use. I believe that if I were to be allowed to join NHS, My intellect and charity would better the organization as a whole. I am a very good problem solver, looking at things from multiple angles comes easy to me. I also have a heart that wishes to spread it’s influence and love over a larger area, and I believe NHS is the tool to help me do this. I feel like an increase in community service would be great for me, and my fellow peers, as I have very little official volunteer hours. In conclusion, I believe that I belong in NHS due to my goodwill towards the less fortunate, my love for the environment, and my charity towards organizations, as well as my problem solving intellect. I hope for the future of NHS, a rise in community service projects, and hopefully a spread from just our general area. I believe NHS would benefit me in making me a better person, and giving me the opportunity to grow and spread my charity to those who need

My father was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and the way it affected him sparked my interest in medicine. At GCSE level, I learnt that diabetes results when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level. Further interest led me to learn that the most common drug used is metformin, reducing the amount of glucose released. Currently the only way to delay/prevent diabetes in people who may have genetic predispositions to it is by maintaining a healthy weight. Recently, a study in Diabetologia showed that obese people with prediabetes could improve their metabolic health, by avoiding AGE products.…

However, there are organizations that are helping kids maximize on their potential and to be the leaders of tomorrow, one of them being NHS. It starts from the very beginning, giving kids the goal of being in the association in the first place. People are nothing without goals, and by giving kids that might be lost or confused a good goal, it has pushed them in the right direction. Secondly, NHS pushes us to become leaders, and what better way to become a leader than doing community service, and doing extracurricular activities in school.…

The aftermath of hurricane Sandy was horrific, however it was also followed by a huge amount of social responsible acts that influenced my life indefinitely. In October of 2012 my community was directly hit by hurricane Sandy which resulted in extreme flooding, fires and wind damage that left a tremendous amount of damage, including concrete sidewalks and streets in rubble; there were holes with half or entire truck’s or car’s buried inside of them. The flood was so bad that we were trapped inside until the water eventually drained into the sewer systems. When the storm and the water surpassed, people panicked; with no phone services, television or radio no one knew how long we would be without resources. Many people broke into flooded stores to get water, canned foods and any undamaged supplies…

For physical health, I engage in jogging every day for about an hour, 30 minutes after lunch and 30 minutes after dinner.
