Narrative Essay About My Clinical Experience

Lauren, I also felt the same was as you do, but my opinion changed with time. I initially started out my nursing career as an L.V.N. and practiced as a critical care nurse for several years before going back and obtaining my ADN. I believed that I did not learn all that much new material in my program. I attributed that to my years of experience and did not thank all that much about it. I later realized that I had learned a lot more than I wanted to admit. I realized this especially when I was precepting a new nurse or doing pt teaching. I had a gained greater understanding and knowledge base of the rational behind many things.. Knowing the rationale behind something always helps me remember. I like many nurses and we all know who we are made fun of the new BSN nurse for not being as technically prepared right out of school so for a long time I did not see the importance of obtaining a BSN.

She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

This article discusses the experience of nursing students that enroll in a BSN program while still in the final semesters of an ADN program and before they are licensed. The study discusses what the students thought to be different areas of focus in each program. The students felt what they learned in the ADN program such as skills, assessment, and disease processes were foundational, but in the BSN program they were able to begin to see a bigger picture of the patient and of the expanded role of the BSN in the healthcare setting. They noted the added emphasis on leadership, community nursing, and evidence based practice in the BSN program. The areas of focus in each program correlate to the expanded role of the Baccalaureate prepared nurse…

I’m sure coming into the third clinical rotation for everyone is a mix of nervousness and confidence. I felt as though I really excelled in my second clinical rotation and with that came confidence in my skills as a physical therapist. On the other hand, I was going into home health care for my third rotation and was feeling nervous. I hadn’t had any acute care experience, other than one ICE in the fall of my first year in PT school, and the in the rotation I was just leaving all of my patients were young kids who were nonverbal. Now that clinical presented lots of its own challenges, but truthfully, I hadn’t conversed with a patient regarding their care since my first clinical, I hadn’t done a full evaluation of a patient in under a one month span since my first clinical and I hadn’t really done any documentation on a daily basis since my first clinical.…

I successfully graduated the Practical Nurse program from NorQuest College with applied clinical experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse. During my clinical experience, it taught and prepared me to communicate with clients and their family members in a professional matter also the experience of the fast-paced setting in a hospital. My clinical experience were different compared to the practices we did in the classroom where we could take our time preparing medication and we did not have as much of the professional interactions as I did in the hospitals. I discovered that I was able to apply my knowledge that I gained from the classroom into real life situations and further build on those experiences. The journey of completing the LPN program shaped me into a more responsible, accountable, and mature individual.…

A competent nurse realizes that continuing education will be an essential part of my practice, in order to “acquire new knowledge and skills to be more effective in their changing roles” (Blais & Hayes, 2016, p. 7) Obtaining my BSN is part of my long-term strategy as well. After I graduate with my BSN, I intend to obtain a Master’s Degree so that I may become an Oncology Nurse Practitioner. I look forward to the challenge of obtaining my BSN degree, because it will increase my research, leadership, and critical thinking skills. I am also looking forward to the prospect of nursing instruction both at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, because I recognize that this will allow me a significant amount of time gaining a deeper understanding of how to deliver evidence-based care, which will make me a better health care practitioner.…

Being a hands-on learner, I excelled the most in lab. I was always delighted to go in and learn how to do all the different procedures and acquire new skills that we would perform in the clinical setting. I enjoyed learning new techniques and figuring out the rationale as to why one may be better than the other. I also took pleasure in teaching and helping fellow students who were practicing their skills in the lab. Throughout my clinical experiences I was outgoing, friendly, curious, and always willing to help when I could.…

My personnel strengths during this clinical experience included my willingness to learn, my openness to new experiences, and my ability to communicate. My biggest limitations for this clinical experience are that I can be overly sensitive, lack of clinical skills, and my desire not to make mistakes. I feel that because I am eager to learn and I really do enjoy new experiences is the reason why shadowing the nurse was such an eye opening experiences. I do tend to be overly sensitive but I can recognize the feelings within myself when that is happening most of the time that I can tell myself its not about me and get over those negative feelings. After shadowing the nurse, I now understand that clinical skills come with clinical experience and…
