Letter-sound knowledge is prerequisite to effective word identification. A primary difference between good and poor readers is the ability to use letter-sound correspondence to identify words (Juel, 1991). This pre-alphabetic stage allows the reader to associate words by symbols with no regards for the alphabetic letters or sounds that make up the word. This stage is followed by the partial alphabetic stage at which the reader will recognize the relationship between letters and sounds and will focus on the easiest segment of the word to identify. Partial alphabetic stage becomes a gateway to letter recognition, sound blending, and pronunciation as students embrace the stage of full alphabetic recognition. As the level of recognition increases through repeated reading, students will soon enter the final stage of consolidated alphabetic recognition. This stage is developed through the use of repeated reading and recognition of patterns, as the information is stored in an instant memory…

In this seminar the three key points I would like to talk about is to always look at the examples for discussion boards and assignments, where to go and learn how to cite resources correctly and the different steps you can take for your topic. When I am unsure of what is required for a post or paper I can always go look at the example to read one. After I see an example I can have an idea of what to wrote about. Also the processor talked about a part of the writing center where I can go learn more about citing my resources. This will come in handy because I still struggle with citing my resources so for now on the writing center will be seeing more of me.…

Looking at previous and current assignments, I am looking at how I have progressed as a writer. This involves analyzing obstacles I had encountered throughout the semester, and understanding how I have learned from those difficulties I had in the past. I intend to refer to the student learning outcome (SLO) to focus on specific areas that applied to my writing. Some specific SLOs of interest are looking into a rhetorical situation and reflecting as a writer. Firstly, SLO A of rhetorical situation involves understanding the context or appropriateness in writing.…

I have discovered that over some time now with being a full-time assistant teacher for an eigth grade math class that it is too tough with writing. In math we begin to implement a writing strategy (R.I.C.E.) for responding to short answer questioning. The strengths that I have as a writer is thinking beyond the topic and comparing it onside of reality. I consider myself a somewhat strong and creative writer when it involves a topic that grasps my attention and I can easily relate to.…

Throughout the course of this semester, I have seen tremendous growth in my writing, research, and thinking abilities. When I first began this course, I had no idea what college writing entailed and how to write a piece of scholarly work. My previous experience with writing in high school was dominated by the typical five paragraph structure essay. This course was so essential for me to learn how to write academic papers and enter an actual scholarly discussion, which will allow my writing to have an actual impact in the real world. When I started my writing seminar, I had an idea of what good writing was from high school, and through writing seminar, I built on those skills as well as developed new skills.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned.
