My Reflection: My Development As A Writer

Looking at previous and current assignments, I am looking at how I have progressed as a writer. This involves analyzing obstacles I had encountered throughout the semester, and understanding how I have learned from those difficulties I had in the past. I intend to refer to the student learning outcome (SLO) to focus on specific areas that applied to my writing. Some specific SLOs of interest are looking into a rhetorical situation and reflecting as a writer.

Firstly, SLO A of rhetorical situation involves understanding the context or appropriateness in writing. Within my third major writing assignment I had to understand the specific audience I had wanted to target. At first, I had written my proposal in a way that did not lean towards any audience. I was blatantly putting out information about nuclear energy which made my proposal seem more like a research paper. I had then decided to shift dramatically creating the problem of focus followed by a possible solution. “To advocate for a healthier and

What I want to look at is writing my reflection, which is incredible because as I am writing this reflection I’m thinking about how I have progressed as a writer. More deeply, I’m thinking about my thinking which is referred to as metacognition. Writing this reflection and past reflections have pushed me to think of my writing in a way that I had never done before. Using a recent example, looking at SLO A helped realize the rhetorical situation and audience. This allowed me to keep in mind, things I should or shouldn't include within my writing. Overall SLO F has helped realize the potential of taking a step back, and understanding the material I write. I intend to use the student learning outcomes in my future writing, more specifically SLO A and SLO F to not only look at the different audiences I must write towards, but to evaluate my overall writing as I progress through my college's years and

The three main recommendations to consider are the purpose, audience and genre. The different questions and strategies to practice rhetorical thinking are well explained and design to favor writers in all composition projects. To start the analysis of this chapter, I found this reading easier to digest than Lindemanns´ work (both targeting the term rhetoric). Lindemanns´ work gave me a perspective of the history and development of the rhetorical practice throughout the years but, Bean´s work taught me specific questions that I can implement in class to start helping my student´s to think rhetorically in order to improve their writing projects.…

Throughout my academic career, I have taken and been successful in a large number of English classes. In high school, my writing followed an academic format, mostly writing towards a prompt. Although I was able to gain writing practice, I never received a large amount of feedback that I could use to help myself in the future. Similarly, when I started college I practiced different forms of academic writing, structured around a prompt and focused on the end goal of a good grade. However, in college I was able to start gaining useful feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of my writing that I could apply to later assignments.…

I knew that teachers and the occasional peers would be viewing my works, but I had no idea how to approach that situation. As a result, I would just write as if my reader was completely oblivious to the topic I was writing about. While long run this strategy proved to be beneficial in increasing the clarity of my writing, it lacked persona. Assignment three really got me to think about this aspect of my writings. Once it was determined that the paper was going to be on trying to get people to go see a wider variety of films, I really needed to consider my audience and what persona would best suite my audience.…

I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
