My Writing Reflection

In writing it is known to acquire both strengths and challenges especially when remaining on topic and not drifting away onto another topic. I have discovered that over some time now with being a full-time assistant teacher for an eigth grade math class that it is too tough with writing. In math we begin to implement a writing strategy (R.I.C.E.) for responding to short answer questioning. The strengths that I have as a writer is thinking beyond the topic and comparing it onside of reality. I consider myself a somewhat strong and creative writer when it involves a topic that grasps my attention and I can easily relate to. The challenges that I face as a writer are as following: debating, thinking, and combining my thoughts or opinions. I tend …show more content…
In my opinion combining my writing is pretty challenging at times because it forces me to think about if my point was clearly stated and if I am placing my information in correct order to best fit the understanding of my reader(s). Based upon feedback that I have received on my writing I believe a major area that I need to improve on is being more knowledgeable of my topic and applying my understanding to remain on topic while being detailed when explaining my point of view which will help in improving my writing skills. I have written several different types of writing which include informative, opinion, and narrative. My favorite type of writing that I enjoy tuning into the most is opinion writing. In my opinion opinion writing is the most simplest form of writing because it allows any individual the opportunity to evaluate and explain their reasoning. I will put forth much greater effort in my upcoming writing assignments to be more successful which will assist me highly in my program of study. The writing strategies that I will have to apply in order to be successful in my writing for my field of study is simply organizing my thoughts while keeping focus on my topic and utilizing bubble maps as well as venn diagrams which will help me in formulating my sentences to complete my topic of

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now. Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Having 4 children who I am very close too helps alleviate a huge portion of my inhibitions about writing, that combined with the newer technologies of programs like MS Word and other programs like it that have spell and grammar check help me in my daily writing needs.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

Knowing I had to aim for a different audience this time around really affected my writing. When my tone for the original paper was rather informal and even somewhat fun, now I had to write for the APA, a group of people who take this line of work very seriously (as they should). Due to this, I gave my arguments a more serious tone, and I even expanded my vocabulary a bit to give a good impression. If I want the APA to listen to me, I should write in a tone they would use. I was careful about the sources I used for this.…

I find very hard to come on with ideas even if its about a simple subject. I have to rethink and even ask my friends or family members for some ideas. When i find myself stuck in a idea I have to stop writing and take a break. By taking a break I feel like I have an opportunity to have a fresh mind when I get back to the writing. I also think its hard the drafting section.…

The third activity in which Allison and I completed was practice with writing lowercase letters as part of the language domain. After reviewing the previous week’s take home activity, it was clear that Allison preferred writing with capital letters rather than lowercase which suggested she needed more practice with learning lowercase letters. For this activity, I cut small orange pumpkins and wrote each lowercase letter of the alphabet on the pumpkins and mixed them up in the pile. Allison picked a pumpkin from the pile and told me what the letter was. She recognized almost every letter that she chose from the pile with only slight confusion with the letters “b” and “d”.…

In the beginning of the semester I was very unsure on how I would appeal in writing, I’ve always been very cynical of my writing because I never thought it was good enough for a college standard. Insanely nervous about entering with writing, it was not as terrifying as I sought it to be. The writing was very straight forward- choose a topic and to stay relative to that topic throughout the semester. Since the topic I chose was very dear to me and I actually did have passionate it about, it made it much easier for me to form bond around it. Like stated before, I took on challenges to test myself to even more extents by using styles that I weren’t so confident on using before.…

During high school, I have learned and improve my writing each year. I was able to apply everything I learn in my writing, in each assignment I was able to notice a growth not only in my writing but also the way I elaborate my ideas. Throughout high school I was able to write different types of assignments that show my improvement and progress in my writing. When I started high school, I did not have a lot of knowledge about how to improve my writing. One of the writing assignments I had to make during freshman year was a creative essay.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…

I believe I have progressed more than I have in any other English class.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
