Why Do We Seek Happiness?

Decent Essays

Rather, I seek happiness through my actions upon others. A driving force of why I wake up in the morning is the ability to make other people smile and experience kindness in their day. I value my capability to make someone’s day more relenting in the constant onslaught of daily life. The time they took to meet up one last time before most of them left for college is such a gift to me. My time with them is over and we are all on our way to greater things in life. Out of the limited and restricted time, there is so much that I still have to accomplish so why should I waste it. As a new college student, time has only become more precious to me. Managing my time to fulfill my academic goals and social aspirations is entirely different from high school. There is simultaneously an abundance of time and a shortage of it due to your goals. My goal is to put my best effort forward in college. I value determination and tenacity to achieve my ambitions in life. With enough determination, I believe that anything is possible and the impossible is just what you think you cannot do. I never experienced true determination until I joined track and field. When I was running on the track I felt a breaking point where I thought that I could not endure that last lap and this is the moment I would quit. The sun blazed down on me as I kept putting one aching leg after the other and questioned why do I put myself through this torture. At the end of the practice I discovered my answer; all the pain was to improve myself. It was to improve my physical endurance, improve my speed, and improve my mental

My decision on not going out for basketball was somewhat hard on him because he really enjoyed watching me play. He also didn’t want to see me give up on something that I was “good at”. When I started cross country I was running over ten minutes slower in a 5k than the slowest person on varsity, so my chances of ever reaching the top seven (Only seven on varsity) were meager. In spite of these obstacles indicating that a varsity slot was nigh impossible to reach I was able to improve my times year after year until finally in my junior year I was able to shave 9 minutes off my time and get a varsity slot. In both of these examples my dedication to a goal allowed me to overcome the difficult obstacles and achieve my goals, though while doing this I was also able to inspire my peers. My ability to inspire others through my dedication is another one of my strengths. In my goal to become Eagle Scout I was also able to convince the other scouts in my troop that if you work hard you can also reach Eagle, which has motivated some of them to push towards it as…

In the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote that every single person has the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Well it’s interesting that he put “the pursuit” of happiness because happiness isn’t something that is guaranteed or something that can be bought. You have to bring happiness to your life by whatever means necessary. Whether it be music, art, literature, exploring, or just learning more about the world around us.
