    The Endurance The story of Ernest Shackleton and his crew’s voyage to the arctic was one worthy of countless volumes. Yet the defining moment of their epic journey, was not their voyage to the arctic itself, nor their amazing plans, but it was their survival through the “polar night”; a time of complete darkness and isolation. So what caused this crew to not just survive, but to thrive in spite of their frightening situation? In this essay I will argue three points for what I believe may have made all difference in the world for their survival. The first aspects that I believe made a large impact on their overall survival, was the fact that they were not focused on the peril they were in; rather, they were focused on each other. In the book Endurance it talks about the rambunctious yet caring group of sailors they had aboard the ship named Endurance. They would play pranks on each other, tell stories, perform songs, and other ludicrous socials.
