College Stereotypes

College is the best four years of your life, they say. As I entered my freshman year of college, it was filled with a variety of emotions and uncertainty. Moving 6 hours away from my hometown, in a completely unknown environment, and not knowing a single sole was the hardest thing i’ve ever gone through. The first weeks of college was a culture shock to say the least. I was exposed to so much more then I thought I would. Thee first few weeks I couldn’t believe how sheltered I was back in my small town. Not knowing anyone, I felt the need to participate in things that were against my morals. I thought that the only way to make friends here was to do go along with want everyone else was doing. For fear that I would be labeled as the girl who has never done this or that. I faced an all time low, doing things that I never would have done before college, just to simply “fit in”. After my mid terms, was a huge wake up …show more content…
Through this experience I realized that if I do not like what I am getting out of life, then its time for a change.. Ole miss has the stereotype of being a enormous “party school”, but that does not mean that one has to part take in this. I often times found myself putting a social life before my academics. Spending 30,000 a year on a college education, there is not excuse for me not to be taking my academics seriously. College being a breeze is an understatement. I had to work harder then I ever had in my life and my grades are still not where I want them. As I think about the first few weeks of this semester I am ashamed of myself for not taking school seriously. I strive to be a pharmacist one day and I am not going to get there by going out overnight. Not only is my grades my first priority but, receiving a high GPA is essential in order to get in to pharmacy school. I never realized the effect that a social life could have on your grades if you do not know how to balance them

We show our gender display and expression in a variety of ways each and every day. Through the way we interact with or friends and family, to our daily routines and habits, gender display is everywhere. Most of the time we go about our daily lives unaware and oblivious too these gender displays that have become ingrained in us. Although there are many gender displays that I consciously express my gender through, there are ways in which I display the opposite. Every morning for as long as I can remember I have the same routine: I wake up, shower using Pantene shampoo and conditioner and body wash, brush my teeth, then I get dressed but look at myself in the mirror for five minutes and make sure I look good, and finally I put on deodorant…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

For senior picture end up a disaster: first, why would the school pick out sad funeral clothes for the pictures that was going in the yearbook of all things and second my mom put out the rest of my clothes. I had picked out a cowboy style outfit (in 2012) gone by the next year (in 2013). Besides that, none of the picture people understand autism would you be in someone personal space when you’re asking them to do something nit picking. It never bothered me that the pictures were terrible, I never do, but on that day, really I never do. that school year was so awful both as a whole and as puzzle pieces, both in the goals and random things both in learning and in the memories that in 2016 I gave my year book to the leaves and trees; and…

The definition of stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. The advantage of stereotype is it helps us organize the world and help simplified it but the disadvantage is people are unwilling to look past the stereotype and are will not rethink one’s idea. For example of stereotyping at Michigan State is people in Greek life do not care about school and are only there to party. The issue with stereotype is when people see people fitting with the stereotype they have it just confirms the idea; it does not make them think that there are exceptions. Stereotypes in advertising increase the idea or behavior.…

There are numerous stereotypes about college students. Many of them say that the students have a lot of fun, but there are those that describe the dark side of the life in a university. Unfortunately, some of them describe it in colours that are even darker than dark. To my mind, it is important that people know the truth and do not have the wrong idea about college in their mind. What is more, these stereotypes should not create fear in the minds of school students that are about to go to higher level education institutions.…

Imagining life after highschool seems nearly unfathomable, and yet it's practically at arms reach. It seems like just yesterday, I was running late for my first day of highschool and stressing over having to memorize 5 vocabulary words; little did I know that it only got harder from there. The older I get, the more people try to give me advice on what to expect in life. More often than not, they say, “life only gets harder” and I have no choice but to believe them. I’ve not yet had the chance to experience life at its peak, but I know that I’m absolutely terrified for what comes with it.…

Much like the majority of my peers, I began my college career as a timid, anxious freshman; however, as all of my peers began college with a multitude of friends that had carried over from high school, I began college alone. When I was a sophomore in high school, I made the conscious decision to graduate high school when I was a junior—thus, completing high school in three years instead of four. Though this move would look ambitious on my academic resume, I had failed to factor in the social implications. I had put myself into a position of attending college at the young age of seventeen, unaccompanied as a result of leaving all of my friends behind in high school, and unprepared for the culture shock I was about to receive. So there I was,…

College has a lot of new found freedoms that you never experience before you get here. Most of the new freshman here are for the first time on their own without their parents watching over them and their every move. This means managing your time effectively, eating healthy, staying active, being involved in extracurricular activities such as clubs, balancing school work, and still finding time to do social things in order to stay sane. Many students rise to the challenge quickly and have almost no problems at all while other kids crumble under the pressure and completely collapse. I myself am dealing with all of these freedoms and I am learning to juggle them all at once.…

There is an anonymous tale that although the college campus is for furthering one’s education, there is a secondary component of discovery where students explore who they are as a person, such as defining their sexuality. What is sexual though? It could be the way a pair of significant others look at each other from across the room, it could be the way a person identifies themselves in terms of who they are attracted to or what sex or gender they would like to be intimate with. It could be anything. It could even be casual conversations between students on campus.…

Everyone will learn fundamental lessons throughout their lives. Many people will learn when they are developing into adults, but many adults will tell you that they never stop learning no matter how old they grow. I once knew a man who lived to be 102 who had an amazing attitude towards life. He never seemed bothered by his old age and always smiled brightly across the room in my direction whenever I was with him. He told me something that I will never forget a few days before his death.…
