My long-term goals are to completely eradicate depression and anxiety disorders, the slightly smaller goal would be to research possible treatments and find one that is better than what we currently use for treatments. My goal career is to be a doctor, I am not sure if I want to be a psychologist or a neurologist yet but I am very determined to complete my long-term goal. The biggest challenge we face every day is a mental health crisis. It is an epidemic because it is ignored. Many insurances do not cover mental health, and if you are lucky enough to have an insurance that does cover it, you face an uphill battle trying to find a psychologist with an opening. There are not enough people trained to treat the volume of the population suffering from mental illness, and society pays for it dearly, sometimes with innocent lives. But instead of saying that society needs more treatment, the most common disorders need to be cured. There is a major difference between treating and curing an illness that majority of people do not understand. For example, doctors can treat cancer, and a lot of people survive, but with current treatment and research, society does not yet have a way to prevent it or to eliminate it. In a similar manner, psychologists can treat mental illnesses like depression and anxiety disorders, but the disorders cannot be prevented or eradicated.
