Personal Narrative: My Grandma As A Role Model

Improved Essays
We all have someone that we deeply love and care for. Someone that inspires us to be the best person we can be. My grandma is my role model. She is one of those people that everyone loves because she is kind and caring. She is a good spirit that loves life and all it brings. She taught me many lessons that I still live by. However, my grandma has always struggled with epileptic seizures. Seeing her suffering and pain was one of the hardest things I had to go through.

Every summer I would stay at her house and take care of her. I would give her the medicine the doctor prescribed and help her around the house. Whenever she had a seizure, I would lay her on her side and call the doctor if she had it for a long time. One time, she had a seizure

Whenever she had an appointment with her doctor, I would go with her and observe how he treated her. In order to make a more rounded decision about whether I should dedicate my life to medicine or not, I asked him questions about his career such as what it is like being a doctor and what it takes to become one. He told me about the advantages and disadvantages. I decided that despite the long years of studying and preparing, it was worth it because, if I want to achieve my dream, I have to work hard. I want to have an aspiring fulfilling career that excites me every day. I want a career where I can make a difference in the world. I want to help people and care for them the way my grandma’s doctors did. I like meeting new people and learning from them and treating patients is a great way to do that. Doctors also teach others about medicine which I enjoy because I believe spreading knowledge is …show more content…
This disorder affects my grandma and around 60 million people around the world. Despite that, there is still no cure that can once and for all stop the seizures. There are treatments for this disorder but they don’t work for everyone. Some people who take those medications still end up having seizures due to their age or the type of epilepsy they have. I hope I can do this research because I want to help reduce epileptic people’s struggles. I am particularly interested in neurology because I find the way the nervous system controls all the other systems fascinating. I like stimulating my mind and neurologists do this every day when they are trying to diagnose a disease or when they are trying to find the best way to treat a patient.

I am an enthusiastic and committed individual who has a strong desire to become a doctor. I want to give back to my community and to be a good role model for my younger siblings. I know about the harsh demands of pursuing a career in medicine but my passion for it is worth it. Becoming a doctor combines all the things I want to have in my life. By attending the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, I would be provided with a great education that would set me on the right path of my future

I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life.…

Every Saturday, I distinctly recall the smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The radio would be playing in the background, masked by the overwhelming chatter occurring throughout the house. So many things happening in such a small space: what I remember most, is the sound of laughter, and the smiles that surrounded me. My grandpa hollering because he cannot hear the television, my mother still drowsy from the sleepless night, My grandmother singing to the radio that was barely audible over the commotion, and me, invariably sat looking at all that surrounded me, enthralled at how lucky I was to have a heart so full.…
