Co-Work Situation Analysis

Recently, I was placed in a difficult situation with a co-worker. It is often very intimidating to begin a new position as a nurse in a new healthcare organization. Unfortunately, clichés are often formed by employees. Last December I was in new employee orientation. My first day I arrived early in order to be prepared and to meet the nurse that would be training me on the unit. It was much unexpected that the nurse walked in two minutes before her shift started and she was unaware that she was going to be training a new employee. This nurse became irate. She did introduce herself to me after complaining to three different nurses right in front of me stating “I did not know I was going to be training anyone. This is ridiculous. This article makes eight suggestions on how to handle conflict with co-workers. The eight strategies include: “don 't gossip about the conflict, address the conflict sooner rather than later, discuss the problem face-to-face, try to find common ground, keep an open mind and listen, when it 's your turn to talk, stay calm, know when you need to involve a third party, and learn from both the conflict and the resolution” (Flynn, 2015, p. 1). Not gossiping about the situation was an effective strategy that I utilized in this situation. I also addressed the nurse as soon as I seen her at work in a quiet and private room. The article suggests to find a common ground and to keep an open mind. These two strategies are excellent stratagies that I could have utilized more in this situation and I feel will help me address conflict with co-workers in the future. It is important to keep calm, and to consider the other persons feelings and emotions when addressing conflict or a difficult situation. Avoiding gossip and is also an excellent strategy that I typically try and avoid. I feel gossiping about a situation only escalates anger and complicates the difficult situation even
