No ! not now, but ,could it be the training wheels have finally come off, as life hits me like a ton of bricks adulthood is finally here. College has approached, and I am now faced with obstacles I have never once attempted. Where do I start, I asked myself . The transitions that I have faced coming to college are studying, independence and managing a social life. My future has begun and now it’s time to strap on the big girl shoes and prepare myself for a ride of experience. I always knew college would be a different experience, and I soon realized that when I began to receive assignments in class .Trying to study was the hardest part, because I was never really taught how to study. Once I started receiving all these different type of assignments, I didn’t know where to start. In high school, it was the complete opposite; high school was a much easier way of studying. I could memorize the material the teacher gave me and if i didn 't quite understand, the material i could meet the teacher during after school hours for help. Trying to adjust to the study habits in college, is a major struggle for me because the class time is more so the professor 's time to teach, and I have little time with them. That can be very overwhelming when i have other assignments that i also have to take care of while also trying to balance out the other class assignment. What i experienced in highschool was a much slower learning environment which enabled me to get a majority of knowledge without having to do as much relearning ,when i came home. Another transition I have to deal with since coming into college is being independent. …show more content…
I am so use to my parents doing everything for me and helping me out when I call on them that I have a hard time adjusting. I am so use to things being handed to me, that I now feel like a little child who is lost in walmart and will never find their parents again. I have no idea what to do or who to run to, i’m faced with the challenge of trying to provide for myself. I no longer have home cooked meals instead I have to go to the cafeteria which can sometimes cause problems because I don 't have someone to remind me when the food is ready. Being without my parents is really the hardest transition I have to deal with since coming to college, because I don’t really have anyone to lean on. Although they are not here with me I know that i have to face my challenges, stop being a child and learn to strive on my own ,because I am now on my way to adulthood. My final transition that I have been faced with in college is a social life. This is very difficult for me, because , I don’t really socialize with people, so to come from high school to college is a huge transition. I am not use to dealing with so many different types of culture background, different languages and much more. While in high school it was a much more simple environment, I knew everybody and could get around very easily. Although high school had less people I would say that getting to meet new people in college is much easier than transfer to a new high school, because , people are more willing to get to know you.I can also be exposed to new cultural backgrounds by joining clubs or organizations , this can teach me

Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. I would always beat myself up about minute mistakes I had glorified during rehearsals, playing tests, and especially auditions. My college search has brought me to many universities: visiting campuses, and talking to students, alumni, and faculty. While I could receive an excellent education from any of these schools, Notre Dame offers something "more. " I first noticed this something "more" through a contact I made with Kyle Cowdrick, ND class of 2015, who I have been emailing back and forth with over the last year about admissions, Notre Dame, and the college experience. I once asked him why he bothered to use his precious time to mentor me, someone he barely knew before, his answer: "It's the Irish way".…

After about six years of being an ordinary, rather unremarkable person, I finally came to the conclusion that I will never be amazing at anything. I will never be the perfect all-star varsity player, or the perfect test-taker who can get a 100% on every test without studying, or the perfect anything, actually. Many say that nobody's perfect, but I have seen people that come very close. I used to pity myself, thinking, "I can never be them." Well, I still think that way.…

As a child, one of the most important questions that is asked is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” My response is a little bit stumbling, but it’s very concise, “I want to be an Underwriter, that is majoring in Risk Management and Insurance.” This has always been something that I wanted to set my goal as, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison has a great Risk Management and Insurance degree program that can help me reach my goal. They have over 4,700 academic courses, which actually surprises me because I have a variety of different opportunities that I can choose from. In addition, Madison is known for having excellent athletic teams, which is very impressive, and excludes other colleges.…

Singing in Swahili was weird at first, but now it is as natural to me as cringing at one of my dad’s bad puns. With ten years’ experience in VOENA, an internationally recognized youth choir, I can sing in over thirty languages from around the world. Growing up in VOENA taught me, not only how to sing and perform, but how to appreciate foreign cultures and different language. This appreciation has shaped who I am as a person and what I dream of and strive for.…

Being a second generation immigrant, I grew up living in a poverty stricken area with splinters standing tall on the wooden floorboards of what we would call home. I look back and recall a peculiarly funny yet pitiful memory of brother and mother sharing a McChicken because we were so penniless. Given the circumstances, my parents would appear to be merry for the sake of my brother and I by giving us hope for a better future. This unnatural display of emotions coming from my own parents fueled my motivation to become successful. As years passed I began to notice and analyze even small details of the world around me which, despite being ordinary and routine, was intricate.…
