Six Songs of Me
Part One:
What is the first song you ever bought?
To remember a single song that was the first I ever purchased is difficult, but I can trace it back to one band and one album. The album is called Nevermind, performed by the band Nirvana. The song, in particular, that comes to mind is “Come As You Are.” I have always been a big Nirvana fan and this song is one of the first that I can remember downloading. Whether or not I downloaded them off of Itunes or Limewire, is beyond my memory. My favorite lyric is, “Take your time, hurry up. Choice is yours don 't be late. Take a rest as a friend” (Nirvana, 1991), because I feel it is very relative to my life right now. Graduating from high school, choosing a college, and moving

Coldplay has been some if my family’s favorite music since they first started recording. In particular, it reminded me of all the amazing road trips that my family and I used to go on. No matter what, there was always the guarantee of listening to at least three Coldplay albums over the duration of the car ride. With that being said, “Clocks” is one of my all-time favorite Coldplay songs. THe lyric that always speaks to me is, “ Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks. Gonna come back and take you home, I could not stop that you now know, singing…” (Coldplay, 2002), because it exemplifies how my time with my family and friends is quickly ticking away.
What is your perfect love song? My idea of the perfect love song is “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra. Being a huge Frank Sinatra fan all of my life I was tempted to use so many of his songs as my “perfect” love song. However, this song never fails to amaze me. My favorite lyric is “Someday, when I 'm awfully low. When the world is cold. I will feel a glow just thinking of you and the way you look tonight” (Sinatra, 1961). This song speaks to me now more than ever, because I am moving to Colorado for the summer, and three months after that I will be leaving home to begin my college career.

I have been assigned a project such as this several times during my high school career, and each time I have chosen “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars to represent myself. Now, anybody from my closest friends to someone I only have a single conversation with would easily understand how much of a “lazy you know what” I tend to be. Since I was a small child I never liked getting up early in the morning, and because of that I probably have my mother to thank for my graduating from high school, as I am positive I would have been dropped from half of my classes if she did not wake me up every morning. Although, as a senior this year I will say that I have gotten better at using my alarm clock to wake up on-time. I am quite proud of this accomplishment, but I truly owe it to the intricate system I put in place for my alarm clock in the morning: First, I set my alarm for 5:45 AM and allow myself to eight minutes for a “snooze” period. Then, I simply use the snooze mode approximately four to five more times after the initial alarm to allow my body to gradually wake up. By this time I am nearly fully awake and have enough energy to get out of my very comfortable bed. This is one of the main reasons why my favorite lyric from this particular Bruno Mars song is

“Is the love I gave her in the past/ Gonna be enough to last/ If tomorrow never comes?” This is a line from Brooks’ song, “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, this was Brooks’ second single, which became his first number one hit, and one of his signature songs. Within the first decade of Brooks’ rise to fame, Brooks ranked second only to the Beatles in career album sales. Brooks was, almost overnight, an international celebrity. Brooks’ first album, “Garth Brooks”, peaked at number two on Billboard magazine's country music chart (“Brooks, Garth” p.1).…

Listening to the selections I found they all generally appeal to me though others have more of an immediate preference than others. A genuine love for music creates an appreciation for all genres. One can respect or acknowledge the environment from which it was produced, its purpose, and the skill of the musician(s). I particularly became fond of The Andrew Sisters after experiencing the song “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. I recall hearing it from a television commercial vaguely, but it was a completely new thing to see and hear them perform it.…

Today My wagon train and I are leaving Ft. Kearny in search of Courthouse Rock, but first we have reach the California crossing and cross the south platte river. The river is too wide to be bridged and to shallow for a ferry so we have to cross it by using the sandbars. When we got in the water one of the children from another wagon almost drowned because of the current. It took us 30 minutes to get from one end of the river to the other.…

I feel the song Compass by Lady Antebellum describes my character in a nutshell. It’s about following your heart not as much your head. It is about living life as it’s laid out, not how you think it’s supposed to be. I love this song because it also reminds you that someone will always be there when you need them. You may not know who they are, but I hope humanity has not yet reached the point where we leave another human being in need out on the street without offering any help.…

“Celebration” was released on October 11, 1980. The song best represents me because of the message gives me. It says that “I shouldn’t worry about the bad times” and “celebrate the good times. ”I relate to this because I worry about grades, homework, and my future. “Celebration” tells me that I should relax and celebrate the good times.…

A few years ago, one of my good friends sent me some songs to listen to by a band that I had never heard of called Twenty One Pilots. Their sound was completely different from anything I had ever heard before, containing some rap, a ukulele, and a piano all in one album. No one song sounded like the other, but they all contained one common element: some type of deep message hidden in the lyrics. At first, I rejected the band, not liking the way the music sounded, but when I listened again, really paying attention to the lyrics this time, I fell in love immediately. Somehow, these short 3 minute songs by this almost totally unknown duo had utterly changed my entire perspective on life, and on the effects of music in particular.…

The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…

Different moments of our lives change us and shape us into the man or woman whom one day we will become. One moment that changed me was when I got my first instrument. Getting my first instrument was exciting, yet challenging at the same time. When I told my mom that I wanted to start playing music, I didn’t realize how hard it can truly be. I didn’t think of how much patience and time I would need to put into my practicing.…

Why I Sing Chaeley Winkler I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t singing. Of course, I know there was time before I could speak or burble as infants do, so there must have existed a certain silence before sound, however the mere thought of being so silent—unable to reach out with voice or touch—disturbs me to no end. But these thoughts of a time before sound hadn’t quite crossed my mind until I began to question the finer, tinier oddities in my life. These questions emerged at around the age of seven, before they had manifested as inner thoughts.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

We have all had a song in our lives that we heard at an early age, and it has just stuck with us ever since. It’s the kind of song that you can never get yourself to delete off your playlist, even though it is no longer your favorite song. So, when it begins to play out of your phone speakers, you never skip it. You would never actively look for that song, but it still gave you a feeling of content every time you heard it. That is the feeling I get when I hear “Firefly” by Owl City.…

At times I wonder what life would be like if there was a soundtrack playing in the background. The soundtrack would continue to play capturing every moment in life, although having a soundtrack playing in the background of my life is an impossible idea, there are still those certain songs that seem to sing in my head for every moment I have experienced in my life. I am frequently at a loss of words, but when I hear the right melody, everything falls in place it connects me with memories, places, people, and experiences. I have hundreds of songs that I listen to, but I want to focus on three that have a significant meaning to my life they are How Big are Angel Wings by Ashton Shepherd, True Friend by Miley Cyrus and How Can I Help You Say Goodbye…

Grammy award winning R&B artist, Adele, conquered the billboards with the number one album ‘21’, selling over million copies. Her most popular song on the album is “Someone like you”, which tells the story of her previous lover. Though she wants nothing but the best for her ex, she prays he remembers the good in the relationship. This soulful song lures in people with situations similar to hers, such as; having to move on from a break up when your heart doesn’t want to and staying strong in knowing it was a reason the relationship ended in the first place, so don’t look back. The poet, Adele, uses various elements of poetry to create a theme of love.…

The personal quality I most value about myself is my passion. Ever since I was a child I have done everything I do with shear passion. I devote myself to any project I start or activity I join, which I find of great value. For example, as a kid I enjoyed to watch cheerleaders at the high school and dreamed to be one. As of now I have been a cheerleader for five years and plan to continue next year.…
