Personal Narrative: Twenty One Pilots

A few years ago, one of my good friends sent me some songs to listen to by a band that I had never heard of called Twenty One Pilots. Their sound was completely different from anything I had ever heard before, containing some rap, a ukulele, and a piano all in one album. No one song sounded like the other, but they all contained one common element: some type of deep message hidden in the lyrics. At first, I rejected the band, not liking the way the music sounded, but when I listened again, really paying attention to the lyrics this time, I fell in love immediately. Somehow, these short 3 minute songs by this almost totally unknown duo had utterly changed my entire perspective on life, and on the effects of music in particular. One specific song of theirs stood out to me and really made me think about music in general, and how it is all around us, but we never really notice it. The song is an account of a true …show more content…
I can turn to it whenever I want, and that is one of the most comforting things in the world. Twenty One Pilots writes songs that help the listener know that with whatever internal struggle or situation they are going through, they are not alone. When I listen to them, I feel comforted, knowing that there are others out there, listening to these same words, that might feel the same way I feel. It’s amazing how much music can help us, sometimes without us even knowing. In conclusion, music is one of the most important parts of my life, and it has changed who I am as a person in many ways. To quote Tyler Joseph, the singer and song-writer for Twenty One Pilots, “It’s music. It can change things. It can maybe make things make sense for moments at a time. It can make you feel like you’re not alone in what you’re going through, and give you a release.” Without music, I would definitely not be who I am today, and I believe that it has helped shaped me into the person I have

“We’re told these days that the hottest and fastest wire into memory is our sense of smell, but music must run a close second. Some songs carry us into a certain mood, some to a general region of our past lives, and some to a very particular moment and situation in time,” states Stephen Corey in A Voice for the Lonely. I cannot think of a time in my life where music hasn’t been there because I use music in times of trouble and in times of joy. It is in the background of every memory I have.…

Until I met letlive. The way the singer connected with his music was beautiful. At one point he was crying, he was laughing and then after the first song I swear he had us all crying or moving along to the music, It was beautiful. I learned from that specific concert that it isn’t okay to judge a band by a song. Just because one song isn't good, or sounds funny doesn't mean that their music doesn't mean anything.…

There is No I in T E A M A lot of the time cheerleaders are stereotyped as stuck up, pretty girls, with the mindset of being better than everyone else, well that is not always true. Being pretty is not only an outside appearance but, it is also the attitude you portray when dealing with others at Maumelle High School taught me a valuable lesson. I was on a team of twenty four girls and a hand full of them always wanted the spotlight.…

Narrative Essay Growing up I never really much appreciated the sound of music. Never had a care or thought of it in the way I could have now. Not up until the summer of 2001; my oldest sister, of the two, would always drive around in our town playing some of her favorite alternative rock tracks. It was calming; driving the backshores, waves crashed into the rocks.…

Within five seconds of a good song playing, I could be instantly hooked just as if I were to take an addictive drug. With that being said, music is one of the best therapies. Music really helps me go through whatever mood I’m in. When my uncle passed away from cancer, the first thing I did was drop to the floor and put on music to cry to. I’m not sure why we humans have such a reaction to music, but it’s a very beautiful thing.…

Music speaks to my emotions.…

Not only is it written skillfully from a musical standpoint, but the lyrics are written in such a way that I doubt there is a single person who couldn’t relate to the song’s message at one point or another in his or her lifetime. “Invisible” inspires me to work towards writing songs that are as relatable to people as “Invisible” is to me; to write songs that don’t just have a catchy melody, but have more depth and actually mean something. You see, music has the power to unite people, to heal the hurt, to empower, to take us away, to evoke memories from many years ago, to build you up, and to tear you back down again. It is the strongest form of magic and touches us emotionally where words alone can’t.…

The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…
