Lady Antebellum's Song 'Compass'

Decent Essays
I feel the song Compass by Lady Antebellum describes my character in a nutshell. It’s about following your heart not as much your head. It is about living life as it’s laid out, not how you think it’s supposed to be. I love this song because it also reminds you that someone will always be there when you need them. You may not know who they are, but I hope humanity has not yet reached the point where we leave another human being in need out on the street without offering any help. This song is just about living your best life.

Für Elise by Beethoven is the song that expresses who I am. When I started playing piano, I got frustrated that most of my family had a natural talent while I didn't. My father talked to me and gave me one of the most important lessons of my life: "Practice makes perfection, if you want something, insist until you get it". After playing piano as a hobby, at age 17 I decided to take my skills to the next level by taking piano lessons at college and I challenged myself to first learn how to play Für Elise. It wasn't easy, but practice made perfection.…

The song that I chose is “the climb”, by Miley Cyrus, the reason I chose this song is because when I was younger I would always go around the house singing this song without realizing the strong meaning behind it. There is many literary devices in “The Climb” one of them is mountain that she is climbing, it is a symbol for life barriers. Another literally device that is used is personification, when Cyrus says “but there’s a voice inside my head saying you’ll never reach it”. In addition the line “there’s always gonna be another mountain, im always gonna wanna make it move”, is a metaphor for having to deal with problems that occur in life. The climb does not have a rhyme scheme it is a free verse.…

I Need You Now “I Need You Now,” by Lady Antebellum, was featured in the 2012 film Zero Dark Thirty, and it was used in television series such as Hellcats and The Glades. The song tells a realistic story about a man and a woman who loved each other, but their pride kept them apart. In the beginning, the woman sings about all of the "Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor" (line 1,2). All of the perfect things they've done together, came to an end.…

I would like to entertain you with a very symbolic song (to me at least). This song may not be the most elegant or the most well known. Being written by an old punk rock band, they aren't exactly known for being a tear dropper. No, this song is a fist raiser. Social Distortion's "I Wasn't Born To Follow" is the song strong enough to push a generation to change the world.…

I guess because as humans we reach peaks within ourselves, it’s hard to truly always be sure of the emotions that always carry in oneself thought life. However, going thought tunes that I felt have always been with me regardless of changes in my life I found a couple that might reflect who I am very well. Those are Camisado by Panic at the Disco, and I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance. I went with these two unusual picks on the fact that although I am still learning about myself, and continue to pass thought these trial and error periods within myself I can always rely on a more innocent time in life where all I cared for was acceptance for my sexuality and for my curiosity on experience. These songs are home to when I was still very innocent to the world and carried a long a lot of hope on how great I would become.…

In the piece “Anything Goes” the vocalist is Ella Fitzgerald accompanied by an orchestra. At the beginning of 1:54 the orchestra begins to play with Fitzgerald. I believe that the band is playing of a written arraignment. It is very difficult to improvise, and make it sound like it wasn’t. Also it seems right for the orchestra to begin playing since she just ended her set.…

Music is an incredible form of expression of many feelings. Whether the listener is happy or sad, there is always a song that they are able to connect with. A few songs that I have really connected with are “Crazy for You” by Adele, “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine, “Money Trees” by Kendrick Lamar and “Animal I Have Become” by Three Days Grace. “You Got A Friend In Me” by Randy Newman. This describes my younger life because I use to love to watch Toy Story a lot when I was younger, even though it was made 5 years before I even born, it is still my favorite Disney movie. One thing when I was young that came to mind when I hear this is many other good moments that are even in the newer movies. When I watch it now, it shows me how much I have grown up and changed, like how Andy has gotten bigger and moved on to college and left all his toys behind. This also reminds of many other good childhood memories such like all the other shows that were on when I was about 8 and how much everything has changed.…
