Within the first decade of Brooks’ rise to fame, Brooks ranked second only to the Beatles in career album sales. Brooks was, almost overnight, an international celebrity. Brooks’ first album, “Garth Brooks”, peaked at number two on Billboard magazine's country music chart (“Brooks, Garth” p.1). With twenty five single in the number one position I the country music chart, Brooks has been named the highest country debut artist of all time. With 138 million albums sold, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified Garth Brooks as the top selling solo artist in U.S.History. In 1999, Brooks created a charity, now named Teammates for Kids. The foundation has worked with more than 3 thousand professional athletes, in order to raise over 90 million dollars in cash, gifts-in-kind, and scholarships. All of these donations brought aid to children in North America and more than 60 countries worldwide (Ghosttunes). Brooks has also worked with Habitats for Humanity to build homes and help people who need these homes. Brooks said “One of the biggest misunderstanding about Habitat is that they give away homes for free. They don’t. These people work their butts off!” (Sgammato “American Thunder”). Garth Brooks and wife, Trisha Yearwood, were named inaugural Habitat Humanitarians in 2016, for their charity work ( Callahan, Rick). Garth has broken multiple records in his career; once performing nine sold-out concerts in six days in order to raise money for flood relief efforts in Tennessee (Ghosttunes). This was just one set of concerts that Brooks performed after his return from retirement in 2009. You could cut some of this out by naming the charity or foundation and telling one thing about what it
