Personal Narrative: My Marching Train

Today My wagon train and I are leaving Ft. Kearny in search of Courthouse Rock, but first we have reach the California crossing and cross the south platte river. The river is too wide to be bridged and to shallow for a ferry so we have to cross it by using the sandbars. When we got in the water one of the children from another wagon almost drowned because of the current. It took us 30 minutes to get from one end of the river to the other. Not long after we crossed the river there was a very steep hill. I slid my wagon down backwards with a tree tied to the rear of the wagon. I ended up having to throw out my desk from my

Adrenaline ran through my veins all day, and Disney references spilling out of my mouth like a broken record in a player. No one else accepted my elation, but I on the other hand, had a countdown down for this jaunt as soon as I heard of it in August. As I sat down on the dirty, sweaty gym floor like the rest of the band, I began to process everything that was happening. In 26 hours, 48 minutes, and 28 seconds, according to my countdown, the entire high school band would be in Orlando, Florida. In four days time, our provincial marching band would be featured marching in a parade in the Magic Kingdom of the happiest place on earth!…

Behind the curly hair, the spontaneous laugh, and the vivid imagination, something sparked a fire in my soul. Throughout my life I have felt so lost, like a pier soul trying to find something to attach itself to. I consequently tried to find my purpose in this world and find a passion that was worth embracing, but nonetheless I would fail. It was not until my freshman year of high school, when I finally got that indescribable feeling. I had found what to attach myself too, I had found myself within the music.…

Being in percussion, during football/marching season, you’re either in Drumline or Pit. Drumline is the section of percussion that marches while Pit is the section that does not. I, as an eighth grader, tried out for Drumline, and was already planning the year ahead expecting fantastic memories. However, I was not fully aware of my skills, or lack of. I was not granted a spot on Drumline and was placed in Pit.…

When I was very little, walking up the trail with a pack on my back and the dog at my side, I would reach out and pull leaves from the bushes and trees. I would tear off corners, smooth the edges, and they would be turned into spaceships, flying across a lush alien world. Sometimes the trail, worn down into the ground over time by paws and hooves, would climb its way up onto the crests of ridges and meander across the moist, mossy fringes of muskegs. The rough, black and gnarled spruce branches that grew there were pirate spacecraft, pursued by the sleek birch branches from beyond the muskeg's soggy borders. As imaginary lasers and rockets exploded against the ships' hulls, I would rip off little pieces of bark and let them fall to the forest floor.…

When I was a freshman, I joined marching band. Marching band taught me some very helpful characteristics that I started applying to my life. It taught me responsibility, people were relying on me more than I’d ever experienced. It taught me commitment, I had a job to do and I had to be committed to doing that job to the best of my ability or I’d be letting down myself and those around me. Most importantly, I learned confidence; I had always been shy and introverted until I was able to break out of my shell through marching…

When I started high school, I knew that the only thing that I wanted to join was the school band. I knew that going into this I had to be a part of the marching band, but I did not quite understand what that entailed. The marching band was so much different that what I was used to coming out of middle school, but I have not regretted my choice to join once. When I began my junior year, I was made co-clarinet section leader with, someone who I considered my friend, Crystal, a senior at the time. This was my first time ever being in a sort of leadership position.…

Coming out of fifth grade, I didn’t know what music really was. It just seemed like a bunch of guys playing a plethora of notes in my opinion. But once I joined middle school band, that all changed. Sometime during sixth grade, I had the sudden epiphany that I need to pursue music for as long as possible, because it felt special. It still does.…

My vision started to fail on mile four of the six-mile hike. Small white specks flickered across my field of vision. The next thing to go was my hearing, followed by my ability to walk in a straight line. My platoon sergeant saw the signs of heat stroke and forced me to stop. I should have stopped myself, but all I could think was: you will finish this, or you will die trying.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
