Mt Lion Elementary Classroom Observation

My observations were in the kindergarten classrooms at Mount Lion Elementary. During my time there I rotated to the kindergarten classes throughout the day. The teachers were Ms. Bell, Ms. Waldoky, Ms. Gullerkenson. Ms. Atkinson and Ms. Gonzales. The class I observed the least was Ms. Gonzales who had 13 students. All teachers performed great jobs at creating a unified classroom of learners. The students have favorable moments to act as chiefs and helpmates with individual responsibilities; their jobs are placed in a pocket folder on the wall. Students could participate in classroom activities in a variety of ways. Ms. Atkinson, Bell, Waldoky, and Gullekerson used a rocking chair during their teachable moments.

I noticed around the classrooms, the teachers modeled supportive interactions with the students, and encouraged prosocial behavior. All children in the class worked well with each other, and friendships were constructed. Ms. Bell involved children in disagreement resolution as well. For example, She would call the students up to her desk when a problem arose and asked each student to share their side of the story, and then she would ask them for a solution. After

A full-day in a kindergarten classroom includes breakfast, a morning and afternoon snack, and lunch for each student. The teachers provided the students with a variety of engaging learning experiences and hands-on materials. Those materials included books, writing materials, math-related games and manipulatives, art materials, props for dramatic play, and blocks. Students use computers within the class. It was described to me that the materials are chosen for how well they support the overall curriculum and goals they have for the students.
