While at my observation this morning, the teacher would step in and help children when they were fighting for a toy, or when one of the children turned off the computer while he was playing, and he did not know how to turn it back on to keep doing this painting game.

2. How does the teacher actively listen to children?
There was a little boy during what looked like it was “free choice time” that was playing a painting game in the computer. He turned it off by accident, and he was upset. The teacher asked what happened (although she knew what had happen) and she wanted him to explain to her using his words what happen, and what he wanted her to do. After the little boy did this, and his game came back on, he was explaining to her what was

Every time they came to tell on one another, or they’re started whining about something, the teacher would make sure they made eye contact with her and then told them “You guys either figure a way to play with each other, choose a different activity to play with a different friend, or I am going to choose where you all go play.” They would immediately try to play with each other peacefully.

4. Where and how does the teachers position themselves in order to supervise?
In the first hour of my observation it was “free choice time.” She was in the Art Center, which overlooked the whole classroom area. She was able to see what every child was doing, while assisting those who chose to paint.

5. What does the teacher say to encourage the children?
When some of the children had trouble with another child, she will direct them to use their words and tell that child “why” they upset or didn’t want to play anymore. The ones that were in the art center were having a hard time opening some of the paint. She would them to “tap the lid on the table, and then try opening it again.” It actually did work for some of them and they were ecstatic about being able to conquer that

My child observation and classroom observation took place at the Mt. San Jacinto Child Development and Education center in the preschool/pre-k (ages 36 months to 54 months) program room. This classroom has 2 teachers and 15 children in attendance during my observation. My study child is a male student age 4 who for this assignment I will refer to as C. The classroom environment as a whole can handle the children within the program, however I will provide a better picture of the entire room to have a clear picture for reflection. As a child walking into this classroom you feel a sense of warmth of both the environment and also from the teacher as she greats all her children individually.…

Children face many challenges throughout their lives. The two major challenges are learning acceptable behavior and being able to regulate their own behavior while interacting with peers and adults. The problem in this case scenario rises when both boys Zachary and Harper continue their center activities instead of joining circle time, even after requesting by the teacher they still continue the activity, which irritates the lead teacher. Later Zachary pushes Harper and Harper starts crying. I feel the lead teacher who is angry on both boys owns the problem.…

Upon watching the preschool classroom YouTube videos provided, my attention was immediately drawn to the bright and positive appearance of the classroom. Although the video only shows a small fraction of the classroom, this being the rooms “circle time center”, it essentially embodies the teacher’s positivity, engagement and care for the children’s education, as well as leading as a constructive demonstration of how the rest of the classroom must look. With no blank spaces on the wall, this classroom really minimizes a large space by embellishing it with different design elements of texture, color, and visuals. From the video you can see the teacher has a monthly calendar, a section on the chalkboard for the day’s objectives, a section for…

My fieldwork experience has made me understand that having numerous teaching strategies like Mrs. Meredith is very beneficial to the students. If one student does not grasp a concept when you are explaining it then you as a teacher can try showing it to them. Another way she lets the children learn is playing games and using student–student problem solving. As a teacher you just have to keep trying to help kids understand topics in their own learning style so…

However, I had to be careful to balance these plans without taking total control of their teaching practices. Normally, before a meeting I would have the teachers send me concerns from their own classrooms. I was able to use their suggestions (and include others that needed to be covered) in a more helpful manner. By allowing the teachers to offer input, they felt as though I validated their role and was working to make life easier for them. From this they were much more receptive to my…
