Classroom observations:
Gianna was observed during the afternoon in her third grade class. At the start of the observation, Gianna was asked to sit at a back table as the class prepared for a timed test. Gianna got up and took her test with her as she headed to the back table. When the test began, Gianna appeared focused and attentive. Once finished, she placed her pencil on the table and looked around the room as she cleaned her glasses. Mrs. Cartwright, Gianna’s third grade teacher, walked by and instructed her to flip over her test. She followed her teacher’s direction and waited for further instructions. Shortly after, Mrs. Cartwright asked the class to hand in their tests. Gianna handed in her test and stood by her desk for a couple of

Throughout my observation time spent at Reese Elementary, I have had the opportunity to observe two teachers, Mrs. Church, who is a second-grade teacher, and Mr. Dohrmann, who is a fifth-grade teacher. The teachers teach different grade levels and have very different teaching styles which lead to differences in classroom management and assessment, as well as, other categories. Even though there are many differences between Mrs. Church and Mr. Dohrmann they also have many similarities, such as the way they handle discipline and motivation. During my observation hours in both classrooms, I noticed the classroom management procedures that both teachers use. Both teachers have a class schedule they go by to keep the students and themselves on task throughout the day.…

On Friday May 13 I was able to observe two P.E. classes at Mt. Stuart Elementary. There were two sections which I observed, first group was a 1st grade class and then a kindergarten class. It was a very cool experience, since I don’t remember P.E. classes back when I was young. One thing I enjoyed was the teacher’s enthusiasm when the students walked into the gym. He welcomed each student with a smile and with excitement.…

During arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon, the same routine is followed on almost all days. I have loved every moment spent at my site these past 8 weeks and look forward to the weeks ahead. I am observing at the first Pre-K in the district that I graduated from. The school and classroom is very welcoming, I have enjoyed getting to know all 16 of the children, seeing their shyness slip away and their personalities come out. Being able to be apart of the children’s day once a week has taught me so much about how a public school is ran and especially the Pre-K. The teacher and Ed tech have shared so much insightful information with me about classrooms and working with 4 and 5 year olds.…

My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…
