The objective of this essay is to understand the work scope of the chosen manager, and to evaluate how and to what extent the Mintzberg’s informational roles are applicable to the manager’s management work. In addition, this essay also examines the extent to which organisation size and workforce diversity may impact the work of the manager. Management is the development of collecting and using sets of resources in a goal-directed manner to achieve tasks in an organisational setting (Hitt, Black & Porter, 2005). Mintzberg’s interpretations and subsequent study states that different manager activities can be structured into ten roles in which they are grouped into three categories: informational, interpersonal and decisional roles (Daft & Marcic, …show more content…
It is evident that Mrs X involves the informational roles of disseminator as she constantly sends memos and reports to inform staffers and subordinates of the CEO’s decisions. Dissemination requires one to associate with other people and therefore, Katz’z human skills, which represent the ability of working well with humans, are substantial (Davoudi & Rahbar, 2012). Managers need strong human skill in communication, motivation and delegation of authority as it is believed that human skill of marketing managers strongly affects management method. As the marketing manager, Mrs X states that she is fully responsible and accountable on the information that she sends to the subordinates. Although the company has employees from two types of generations – Gen X and Y, Mrs X mentions that the company is doing really well and that it encourages employees to work in such environment. This is because it exposes the company to new ideas, cultures and perspectives to help its employees to reach out intellectually. Mrs X also mentions that working in a diverse workforce fosters a more creative and innovative environment as it brings together employees from different backgrounds, experiences and qualification. Moreover, Mrs X agrees that ‘diversity in a workplace is necessary’. She highlighted that today’s modern organisations are very competitive, hence working in an environment that is diverse helps the company to grow and progress, as the employees help bring unique talents and contributions to the
