What's Merica’ Without Meat

A man and his son make their way through the dark on a cool fall morning. The fog lies over the hills like a thick blanket. The man and his son talk about the things that have happened in recent times and share memories from years past, too. The morning continues, and as time passes, the two realize that this will be an experience to remember for many years to come. Countless generations throughout the ages have shared the tradition of hunting. Before people ever settled U.S ground, people have been hunting animals for food. People had to hunt because hunting supplied food for their family. When hunting first started people used weapons such as sticks and stones to kill animals. As people got smarter and had greater

There are an estimated 12.5 million hunters over the age of 16 hunting each year for deer. Seasons, permits, and species have specific rules governing the type of firearm, bow, atlatl, and slingshot a person may use to hunt (Missouri Deer Hunting History). Deer populations are controlled by hunting. The government puts laws and regulations to ensure that the deer population is controlled, but not hunted to extinction. For those people that think hunters just go out in the woods and shoot as many deer as they can, it's not true. In order to make sure im hunting legally i have to buy deer tags and also check to see when the seasons are to ensure i'm hunting at the proper time and following all the rules that every hunter should follow. If you are caught hunting illegally, fines are given to you and sometimes you aren't allowed to hunt for a specific length of time. “Mike Krassey was fined 3,500 dollars for illegally hunting white tailed deer, being party to the offence of attaching a seal, or tag, to a deer killed by another person. He then had his hunting license suspended for 2 years so he couldn't hunt anymore”(Hunting controls deer Population). Fines are huge deal for illegal hunters and help keep most hunters hunting safely and legally due to the big fines you could receive. The minimum fine a person can receive for hunting illegally is 500 dollars. Laws and fines should not be cheap though because it helps ensure that people will follow the rules and hunt legally. Poaching is one major problem that we have in Missouri with deer hunting. Poaching is very illegal and most people that poach do it because they can't afford to buy tags or have no ground to hunt on for themselves. Poaching is a deadly crime against wildlife. Wildlife officials say that legal hunters kill tens of millions of deer every season. For each

White Tail Deer Wildlife plays a very important role in the history of our country, dating back hundreds of centuries to the first civilizations of Native Americans. White-Tail Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) played a significant part in how the Indians survived; deer supplied the Native Americans with meat (venison), clothing, tools, a source of trade between Europeans, and ceremonial items (Howe, 2011). This being said, if anything were to happen to the population of deer to decline the Indians way of life would be greatly hindered. Much like the Indians from centuries ago, the Indians from the 21st century still utilize the deer in the same way their ancestors did, along with many other Americans that inhabit the United States. The objective…

Introduction: Mule Deer once thrived in Western Nebraska, but now their population has gone down due to hunting, predators, and disease. Many people take for granted the wildlife that we have. Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) once roamed the western United States in the millions (Holechek et al 1982). When the first white man came in the early 1800’s, the number drastically declined. The reason for this is partially due to the Tragedy of the Commons.…

That happens to many people in a year; there were 1.23 million car accidents involving deer and vehicles between July 2, 2011 and June 30, 2012. Hunting has been around since the dawn of time. Having transformed from a vital means of survival to a sporting activity, people have long debated both sides of the issue. While some view hunting as a righteous action, others despise the deed. The argument for hunting as an admirable or distasteful act is still relevant to present society. As seen in the writings of Rick Bass and Robert G. Schreiner through many comparisons and differences, imagery, deeper meanings, stances, and views, the debate of hunting is a controversial matter.…

Since the dawn of time, humans have practiced the right to hunt whitetail deer to control the deer’s population growth rate. However, animal rights groups and pacifists alike are trying to take that right away from the American people. Not only does hunting have an enormous impact on the American lifestyle, but also gives the common people (including myself) a chance to observe and help maintain the wildlife and its environment. Recently, those opposed to this idea have started to conduct experiments on new, alternative ways of controlling the deer population. These new, alternative methods have been proven to be inefficient and to only work in enclosed areas.…

The way the system works now, each state is in control of their animal populations. They must have enough tags filled to keep the populations in control, but also not too many to kill off a species. Each year they require hunters to report if they killed an animal or not (N&M 2105). This helps with the population count of that species. From there, the state releases so many tags the following year.…

This shows that he is able to supply and support his family with food if need be. My dad began taking me deer hunting when I was about six or seven; I wasn’t allowed to actually carry a gun yet though.…

Deer breed quickly and have been known to double in population during just one year; they can live to be more than ten years old. Deer can also cause damage to gardens and farms, attack humans and other animals, including family pets, and are a danger to those driving. Deer and other hunted animals can carry perilous diseases and ticks that may cause nasty and infectious diseases for humans, such as Lyme disease, causing many to feel that hunting is required to protect the general…

A common, although very general, definition of wildlife crime states that it is any violation of a criminal law (clearly/for a single purpose) designed to protect wildlife. One of the most common wildlife crimes is illegally killing, which is generally defined as taking a wild useful thing/valuable supply out of season or through an illegal means. The laws usually cover animals (including (milk-producing animals), reptiles, birds, (frogs, toads, etc.), fish, and even insects), as well as certain plants . Although (boiling/killing/taking from somewhere else) often results in the death of an animal, it also includes illegal live trapping of animals that are later sold or traded for (money made/good thing received). illegally killing is not simply hunting out of season or with the wrong type of weapon; it can also be the killing or trapping of (in danger of disappearing forever), rare, or protected species.…
