1.What role, if any, does McGregor's Theory Y play at Whole Foods? Explain. McGregor’s Theory Y contends that managers can accomplish a lot by viewing their employees as self-energized, committed, responsible, and creative people.(McGregor, 1960) Essentially Theory Y assumptions can lead to employee engagement. Engaged employees work with more profound sense of ownership and responsibility towards the company. The employees at Whole Foods appear to be following John Mackey’s leadership by being engaged and responsive to his management style. Mackey believes that when employees are happy they provide better service and an overall better experience for their customers. From this it is clear that McGregor’s Theory Y plays a key role at Whole Foods.

The company strives to provide high quality foods which illustrates the dignity of human life principle . The company demonstrates loyalty with its long-term relationships with suppliers and its emphasis on employee life and development. Whole Foods shows fair treatment towards its suppliers, communities and employees. Lastly, Whole Foods also seems to focus on accomplishing the common good for everyone they do business with.
What factors would be an appeal to working at Whole Foods?
The most appealing factors that would appeal to working at Whole Foods for me would include the overall culture of the company, the emphasis one of the value of employees and their long term growth, and the loyalty and fairness the company provides itself with. I have personally worked at many companies that do not value their employees and have not loyalty towards them so that is a one factor in my appeal to work there. The overall culture would also be a breath of fresh air for me and one that would certainly factor into my appeal of the
