The directors were aware that they had to keep up with changes in future and they decided to expand their company by building high-status homes catered to wealthy clients. Due to their long history being in the building industry, they were well-recognised and had adequate experience.
One director suggested an excellent idea to use a different approach which would overwrite Main and Son’s traditional approach of house building in order to venture into the high-status homes. Thus, they decided to consult an OD consultant regarding issues how their new venture may impact the practices of Main and Sons and their traditional structure, tentatively named Mainstream Builders.

In Main and Sons case, the directors had to research on total quality management and characteristics of high involvement organisation. Although the methods provided in the articles are useful, the objective of the article was to determine solutions for the organisation. It was not simply a matter of recruiting better people to work in the organisation but improving performance of the employees.
The article is linked to the case as the directors need to implement high involvement work practices to ensure job satisfaction by using the research methods mentioned in the articles which they can put it to good use.
