Assessing My Style of Leadership
There are many great leaders in this world, but they don’t all use the same method or style of leadership. Determining your leadership strengths and weaknesses can help determine a leadership style that best suits you, enabling the identification of ones strengths and the opportunity to improve weaknesses. Doing so will help you maximize your leadership abilities. I will be using the University of Kent Leadership Assessment to assess and explain my leadership style. These results will be analyzed and examined to see which assessment results were most surprising. Following that, ways this style can be used in my workplace and personal life will be considered along with where this style is commonly employed, by

Features of that style I also relate to strongly such as having a strong focus to get the job done, and attention to detail. After reading some of the other details however, I began to see why I didn’t score as highly as I thought. Overall, after reviewing all of the leadership styles listed in the assessment, I feel the participative leadership style captures my strengths as a leader more comprehensively than the other styles.
Applying Leadership Styles The participative leadership can used in many situations to produce positive results. Kushalappas and Pakkeerappa (2014) point out that participation has become an essential ingredient in the corporate strategy by giving employees some control over the things that affect them, while proving to be an effective method to driving essential changes in the workplace. So, what are some ways that I can apply my leadership style to my dealings at work and my personal life? I will examine this specifically in the areas of effective communication, recognizing opportunity, my role as an advisor, and recognizing talent.

Murdock (2014) points out that the participative leadership style is best used in situations where time is not vital and creativity or multiple solutions are desired. This makes this style an ideal approach in companies that need those skills. In addition Kushalappas and Pakkeerapa (2014) highlight that change is a necessary part of life while pointing out that businesses that employ the participative style ease the struggles of changes in the workplace for employees. Kim (2002) also states that research has shown that when manager’s use a participative management style, employees report higher levels of job satisfaction. As a result many corporations are utilizing this style more and more over more the traditional management style where roles are more strictly defined.
