Patagonia business structure appears to be based on a clan culture. As such, they have created a work environment that causes people to stay with the company due to the feelings of support and understanding (Henneman, 2011). This environment, combined with Patagonia’s corporate culture and philosophy, has led to a company who shares its values with it employees (Henneman, 2011). This is the major factor to the success Patagonia has seen influencing the work attitudes of job involvement and job satisfaction. Patagonia has created multiple programs to help its employees feel satisfied. Programs such as “Let my People Surf,” offers a flexible schedule for employees to allow them to help create their own schedules and test new gear and products (Henneman, 2011). This onsite daycare opened during a time when only 150 companies provided such services(“Beginnings”). This daycare has also helped to foster a community between the parents at Patagonia, as the company’s employees are all like-minded and help to raise the children, much like in a village. The daycare, flexible scheduling, and employee benefits such as a full two months of paid leave for new parents, has helped to recognize Patagonia as an excellent place for mothers and expecting parents to work (Henneman, 2011). Finally, Patagonia has a strong sense of environmental ethics and hires people who are willing to help deal with the effects of the pollution and the destruction of the environment (“Beginnings”). To help combat the environmental crisis, Patagonia donates one percent of sales or ten percent of profits each year to small grassroots efforts (“Beginnings”). They chose to give these donations to smaller groups to allow more of the funds to go to the effort, rather than the staff, overhead, and corporate connections that come with larger groups
