The Leader-Member Exchange theory (LMX), also known as Vertical Dyad Linkage Theory (VDL) is a style of leadership which exerts and maintains leadership through working with their supporters (Leader-member exchange theory- LMX, n.d.; Eyre, 2015). The link implied here, is the one between leader and follower (Eyre, 2015). There are three stages of development of LMX relationships. The organizational or role-taking stage is where a group forms or a person rises from an existing group to meet a need in the group. I would ask for advice on how to proceed, as they know the followers complaints and worries. Changes like these cause instability in employment and financial status, and role in the organization. The location is good for increasing awareness and may possibly increase the donations to the organization, making it possible to focus on the important work, to bring caring adult mentors to young people in need of guidance. We can create a contractual agreement which states BBBSA cannot relocate to another city or state for 20 years, this will help to assure the stability of the organization as well as follower financial stability. I will aim to be a considerate leader, establish good relationship quality and encourage an autonomous work climate to instill stronger co-production beliefs from the followers (Carsten & Uhl-Bien, 2012). Finally, at some level, I will try to re-establish the phases of LMX. I will go back to the organizational stage and give everyone the opportunity to start over or reclaim their position in the organization. This includes re-evaluating and trying to reconnect and invigorate the out-group team members. I will try to find out what they need to be invested in the program, meet with them one-on-one, establish a mentoring relationship and offer low risk opportunities as a way for them to break out of the out-group (Eyre, 2015). As we work together in the "trenches" and they see I will work just as hard as they do, finally we can learn each other’s personalities and work ethic. I understand as an outsider coming in to a position of power and leadership it will be a lot of hard work and will take a long time
