John Proctor's Tragic Hero

Even though Proctor is the play’s tragic hero, he still is an admirable character. He holds many noble characteristics which include his loyalty and strong authority, and how he is a loving husband. Hale is talking with Proctor about how he does not attend Church every Sabbath Day like he should. Proctor declares, “I labor the earth from dawn of day to blink of night…” (62). John Proctor is a hard worker, and even if he does not attend church every Sabbath Day, he is well respected among Salem for his hard work. What molds every perfect character into a tragic hero is their own flaw, John’s being his desire for Abigail which leads to an affair. When John is in the courtroom and Reverend Hale asks him to recite all Ten Commandments, he names
