John Proctor is an unloyal, trustworthy, and stubborn person. John Proctor has been all of those traits in the book and in the movie. John Proctor believe god was dead so they hanged John Proctor up. John Proctor wasn’t an innocent man at all because John Proctor was caught and trapped like in jail. John Proctor is unloyal because he had an affair.…
“How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul leave me my name”. John proctor said this quote because he wasn't a witch but confused to be one to save his life. John Proctor was in his mid 30s and accused of witchcraft. They accused him when he was in court trying to save his wife's life by saying he plows on sundays and doesn't go to church.…
John Proctor is a type of character that everyone can relate to. He has a dangerous background that haunts his life and he can’t share it because he will condemn himself to pretty much death. He committed one of the Ten Commandment with a woman who was of an age that now would be considered a federal offense. Her name Abigail and in the story she was seventeen. In the Puritan community the first person you have sex with is supposed to be the person you marry.…
John Proctor’s character brings his doom From the beginning of The Crucible to the end, John Proctor has been a dominant character throughout all the acts. In such a corrupt society in Salem during that time, John Proctor was one of the most courageous people during that time, standing up for the truth against his wife and many of the other accused. His character and attitude stood out from the rest in Salem, but unfortunately, it leads to his death. Because of the different aspects of John Proctor’s character, it leads to his doom.…
His struggle between right and wrong, and his pride causes him to have a tragic fall. Which also makes John Proctor the perfect example of a tragic hero. “He need not have been a partisan of any faction in the town, but there is evidence to suggest that he had a sharp and biting way with hypocrites. He was the kind of man - powerful of body, even-tempered, and not easily led - who cannot refuse support to partisans with-out…
Anne Frank once said, “Human greatness does not lie in wealth and power, but in character and goodness. People have faults and shortcomings, but all of us were born with basic goodness.” Although John Proctor has his faults and commits his sins he still has goodness within him. Proctor proves himself time and time again. He is a good and unselfish man.…
Some may say John Proctor is a type of tragic hero but to me he is not. John is a stupid man for not taking the chance to save not only himself but his wife and unborn child. But he didn’t he decided he wanted to try and be a hero and end up getting killed with the same people he try to save. I don’t think John Proctor is a tragic hero but a dumb one.…
“My wife will not die for me! I will bring your guts into your mouth but that goodness will not die for me.” In The Crucible, John Proctor is a dynamic character throughout the story. John Proctor, was a farmer from Massachusetts who was well respected in his community. He had all the things a yeoman in the late 17th century could ask for: honor, land and family. Most would assume that someone with his kind of status would be last person to be accused as being a witch. Yet he was later convicted for being a witch. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Proctor was convicted and hanged for being a witch.…
Seeing this, John is illustrated as a good person throughout the book and I believe he truly is. Having a successful life with his kids and property, everyone practically looks up to him as a man and father in the town. Taking out his past mistakes and flaws, John Proctor has true power in Salem. At the start of the play, when the girls are caught dancing in the woods, Proctor’s power is high and mighty and continues to be just until his wife is arrested.…

One reason is the fact that she witnessed some pretty cruel stuff before she moved in with Parris and Betty. In Act One Abigail quotes “... I saw Indians smash my dear parents’ head on the pillow next to mine…” Before she moved in with Parris and Betty she has already witnessed the death of her parents which can leave her traumatized. When a person is traumatized they can go through emotional symptoms like depression, numbness, anger, and a feeling of being out of control. When going through these emotions your mind can be in a weak state, which means that she couldn't possibly make any rational choices. Abigail also points out in Act One “... I have seen some reddish work done at night…”…
There are many heroes in today’s society. Every person can have a different definition of what defines someone as a hero or something as heroic. Grant Wiggins, a local school teacher in A Lesson Before Dying and Jefferson’s friend, has his own definition of what it means to be a hero. It is arguable that there are two predominant heroic characters in the The Crucible, a drama written by Arthur Miller, and in A Lesson Before Dying, a historical fiction written by Ernest J. Gaines, John Proctor and Jefferson. John Proctor is the protagonist in The Crucible whose town is afflicted by the witch trials in 1692, and Jefferson is a main character in A Lesson Before Dying who is a black man on death row in the 1940s south.…
