'Two Ways A Woman Can Get Hurt'

Majority of the people, they generalize one another, all because of the media and misjudgment that everyone has. The images that they display of men and women are tarnished in several ways. Though, the media or advertisements don’t seem to mind that they are showing the people the expectations from everyone thinks of men and women and barely show with how men and women actually are. Like for men, there are men who people think that they are violent while for women they think that they are fragile. However, it is not like this it’s not just the men who are violent, women can be violent as well, or as how women are treated in their workplace or their relationships. Some women are with men who are abusers, and they always find themselves stuck and unable to leave that relationship because they are too scared to leave them. As in Rereading America, “‘Two Ways a Woman Can get Hurt’: Advertising and Violence” by Jean Kilbourne, talks about how there are different meanings behind every photo. So there are some photos that shows some women do get hurt by the men they are with. As Kilbourne states, “And more than half of us have been physically assaulted, most often by the men we live with. In fact, three of four women in the study who responded that they had been raped or assaulted as adults said the perpetrator was a current or former husband, a cohabiting partner or a date” (433). These assaults happen all the time and no can stop them because most women are too afraid to report what is happening so they just let it continue. Women should be able to protect themselves or leave once they are feel unsafe, but most men won’t let them leave and they would usually continue the abuse leaving these women defenseless. However, even though there are men who violently abuse their girlfriends/wife, there are men who are not the attackers but he victims as well. There are people who do believe that men are the only ones who do the abusing but they don’t think that men can be abuse by women just because they are men. Like in “Is It Really True That Women are as Violent as Men?” by Desmond Sinead, talks of Erin Pizzey the founder of Refuge. She made a shelter where women and their children can go to stay out of the home where they are being abused. People would never be able to believe that a man is a victim of being abuse by a women just because they are bigger than women and they could defend themselves against a woman.
