Thirty years ago, students attending Wahconah Regional High School had a different experience as they went through their normal activities of the year. For example, if a student were to play two sports throughout the course of an academic year, they did not have to pay a sports fee (today that fee is $100). Why is that? The answer is simple. Funding is different because the tax system imposed on the seven surrounding towns.…
The four to five vote in favor of hiring a new principal for Haraway High School and tenure applications of a dozen teachers, were the highlights of last night’s meeting at the city school board. The school board search committee narrowed the selection list of more than 40 applicants to the most qualified two candidates, current assistant principal Juli McCorvey and Mike Coleman a principal from Louisiana. Coleman earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Backwater State University in Tennessee. Louisiana is where Coleman was born, raised and where he’s been principal of Sandy Bar High School for ten years.…

Ever since Gale Ranch opened, there has been a school dress code. Gale Ranch students melted into a pool of anger and are now breaking it. Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

Lacy Elementary School is in the process of implementing Positive Behavior Support Systems, but has seen a large influx of bullying in the cafeteria during lunch hours. Bullying involves any type of psychological or physical abuse and includes such behaviors as teasing or taunting (Whitted & Duper, 2005). Bullying can also be defined as the use of hostile actions that is meant to be disparaging to the individual (Long & Alexander, 2010). While studying the definitions of bullying and reading observations of Lacy Elementary School, bullying became prevalent during lunch hours, which involves large numbers of students gathering in a common area. The implementation of an intervention team, as well as creation of an action plan will combat the issue of bullying in the cafeteria.…
The Lincoln Preparatory School was previously known as Grambling State University Laboratory School. It was a public high school operated by the Lincoln Parish School Board in Grambling Louisiana (Lincoln Preparatory School - FAQ. 2017). However, dating back in history, from 1984, the Grambling State University lab schools had never fully compiled with court desegregation orders (Lincoln Preparatory School - FAQ. 2017). As a result, the 1966 desegregation case was revived by the Department of Justice (Lincoln Preparatory School - FAQ. 2017). In its 2011 court filing case, (The United States of America v. Lincoln Parish School Board et al) (GSU response 2011) it was asserted that the schools were, "a lasting vestige of the de jure segregation…
Room 0742 is a studio design room located in king pavilion at the Iowa State University college of design. In a way it represents the beginning of my journey at Iowa State, for it is the first class room I had ever been in as a student, and its represents hours and hours of hard work and dedication to my major. It is a rather bittersweet place with times where it became a place to put my work on display as well as a place to spend many long nights and very early mornings working and developing. The space itself physically is not a room by traditional means it has no doors and stall like walls that rise above the ground six to eight inches as well as an opening at the top.…
As a current school counselor at Alexander Central High School, a significant problem I encounter on a daily basis is the lack of students understanding the importance of higher education. The Alexander County community at-large, consistently devalues higher education through their attitudes and actions. According to the US Census Quick Facts (2008-2011), “Only eleven percent of Alexander County citizens have a bachelor’s degree or higher education, while twenty-seven percent of North Carolina residents hold a bachelor’s degree or higher” (p.3). It is imperative that parents and guardians understand how vital their role is in supporting their child 's future in higher education. A collaboration between the school and parents is necessary to emphasize the importance of continuing education after high school.…
The classroom also had two very large windows looking out onto the playground area, which provided a nice natural light to come into the room. The classroom was tidy and organized with plenty of storage options. It had cubbies along the back wall giving each child a specific area to place his or her belongings. The classroom provided a wall of cabinets and a storage closet to store any materials that did not need to be placed out. Everything in the classroom was just the right size for the students if they needed to utilize it, objects or areas where they were not supposed to be in were placed out of…
