Boys and girls are separated into segregated classes. The environments inside of the rooms are modified for each gender. For example, dimmer lights and warmer temperatures are combined into a girl’s classroom. Van Devender Middle School believes that grades will be academically higher in the separate classrooms. Amy Katz, attorney of ACLU case, requested a restraining order on the plan of the middle school. Unfortunately, the case was later declined.
