Boys and girls are separated into segregated classes. The environments inside of the rooms are modified for each gender. For example, dimmer lights and warmer temperatures are combined into a girl’s classroom. Van Devender Middle School believes that grades will be academically higher in the separate classrooms. Amy Katz, attorney of ACLU case, requested a restraining order on the plan of the middle school. Unfortunately, the case was later declined. Over the past years, ACLU has successfully shut down schools just like the Van Devender’s school such as the Vermilion Parish school district located inside Louisiana along with suing a school in Kentucky.
