In 1959 Carl Rogers believed that humans tend to self-actualize. In studying self-actualization, this discovery was to see how humans are like flowers and how the way that we develop and grow differently shows how we can be in a state of congruence. It is our inner personality the way that we feel and has experiences. It reflects what we are inside. A self-concept is made up of three different parts. Rogers believed that the first part is self-worth these feelings developed early in childhood and formed from mother and father interaction. The next part is self-image this is very important in how we see ourselves and our body. This influences how we think, feel and behave. The next step is the ideal self this person is the person that we would like to be. This part is made up of what our ambitions are in life and our goals. Our ideal self-changes as we age. Carl Rogers believed that children had two basic needs positivity and self-worth. In self-worth, some people have a high self-worth they usually have a lot of confidence and positive feelings. They are open with people and they face challenges thru accepting failure. A person with low-self-worth they avoid painful and unhappy times. They are guarded and can be on the defensive with people.
