Currently the sales department is call based for receiving customer orders. Orders are then placed through calling each different manufacturer. The receiving department is manual based to check and group all the items. The shipping department is manual based to send the items with the customer.
From the organizational chart we can see how all the departments within the company are connected. First, the sales department receives calls from customers. The sales representative will write down the customer’s information and the items the customer wishes to purchase. Orders are then placed by the purchasing department by either calling or visiting the website of the manufacturer. The receiving/shipping department get the written forms from the purchasing department of when the items will be delivered. The receiving/shipping department completes the written forms upon arrival of the items and prepares the items for shipping. Shipping orders are then placed

It was discovered by increasing times to complete and ship orders. Ultimately, within and between departments there is no automation and sharing of information is slow. The problem is quite severe due to the drop in customer satisfaction.
Thus our proposed solution to the problem is to make a website that will automate most of the processes and will distribute information to each department electronically. This website will have the capability to take orders from customers, accept payment from customers, and generate the forms needed for each department. Other alternatives would be to hire more employees to handle the large volume of work or have a software firm develop a specific program to fit our needs. We find that both alternatives would be more costly while providing similar benefits of a ecommerce website.
