Thomas Szasz once said “The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but never forget.”1 I am certain that the honor court, Dean Adair and professor Briggs have not forgotten the wrongdoings that I have done, however I do ask for your forgiveness. As a Junior, at Hamilton College I began my Biostatistics manuscript assignment with a little concern about plagiarism because at the it seemed to me that any writing I would do in the class would be my original work. It wasn’t until I started writing the introduction and methods sections to the manuscript that I came upon this paper “Just as smart but not as successful: obese students obtain lower school grades, but equivalent test scores to non-obese students” by C. MacCann and R D Roberts. This paper was very related to my research topic i.e. how does childhood obesity correlate with academic performance in elementary school children? I not only used the ideas from the aforementioned paper, but literally copy and pasted sections from their introduction and method sections. Unlike Josef Piekarek and Alex Samrino in, The Cheating Problem in Professional Bridge, who voluntarily confessed to their wrongdoings and cheating, I continued to plagiarize and I submitted the plagiarized assignments without any hesitation.
