“Creativity without strategy is called art; creativity with strategy is called an advertising” (Gourley). Advertising is all around us; it is an unavoidable part of people’s life. Anywhere a person looks, he will always see some form of advertisement. In fact, billboards, posters, fliers, and other print media are visible almost everywhere. Basically, all these promotional materials aim to inform people about the existence of a certain product or service. One of the most popular advertisements that you can see today is billboards with drink product Pepsi. One of the recent advertisements of that company is a billboard that you can see in subways or at the bus stations of a middle aged elegant woman who is having fun with her can of Pepsi by blowing bubbles into it with a straw. In this ad, we can find an axial balance between the different elements represented in the advertisement. We can find that three major components of the advertisement: the woman, the can, and the sentence that situated along the direction of a certain vertical axis that we can imagine in the middle of the picture. The caption states “New Skinny Can” that advertises new can that is taller and skinnier than the regular can for soft drinks. This billboard also portrays the most important principles of the advertisements. It attracts and brings consumer’s attentions from the first look.
