Strengths and Weaknesses
The goal of this study was to understand the relationship between failed training interventions and culture of safety in acute hospitals. The most significant weakness to this topic is that literature exploring how training has failed to create safety culture in health care is not available. Perhaps, the complexity and ever-evolving environments in acute hospitals makes research difficult. With that said, Simon (1999) explored cultural issues that health care professionals face. Therefore, research from manufacturing organizations can be beneficial. The research also does not indicate the assistance of a third party, training professionals. Therefore, what is missing is how each recommendation is to be implemented, with or without a third party. Hospital professionals will need to decide if a third party is necessary to implement any of the solutions mentioned above.
Although hospitals have many aspects in common, they are not all created equal. Therefore, making blanket recommendations for intervention is not suggested. Hospital professionals (leadership and and training professionals working in acute hospitals), should assess their organizations thoroughly and implement interventions that are either realistic and play to their current strengths. However, future research is recommended on the topic of turnover. Future research should focus organizations that have consistent turnover issues. Health care organizations will need to understand factors will need to be in place to sustain safety gains in a high turnover organization. This may be incredibly significant research for rural hospitals rather than metropolitan hospitals. Recommendations can be made from teaching hospitals, but researchers will need to validate the success safety culture
