Highly Functioning Teams Team development and leadership is an essential component for the business environment in today’s competitive market. As a leader it is necessary to develop skills that will inspire team to build cohesive structured goals and objectives that will produce successful outcome. Before, I talk specify about highly functioning, self-managed, motivated, and team that focused on company goals, I would like to state what teams and teamwork entailed. A team is a small number or large number of people with matching skills and they are committed to a common purpose, set of performance goals, and approach, for which they hold themselves accountable; however, teamwork is an understanding and commitment to goals on the part of all team members (Dubrin, 2001). High-performing teams consist of establishing measurable team performance purposes that are obvious and compelling. The team members realize that valuable teamwork is important in achieving goals, and leader must institute incentives to reward team successful performance. Constructive plans regarding how to manage roadblocks should be implemented for teamwork progress. Establish an organizational culture that supports teamwork-oriented processes and behaviors (e.g., everyone in the organization understands that success is predicated on effective collaboration. In addition, leaders should generate information systems to make available needed information so the team can make authentic decisions.
