Why I Want To Become A Cardiologist

Improved Essays
As an only child growing up in a middle class family, I learned the value of helping others through my parents. My hard working parents were brought up in Bangladesh, a third-world country in South Asia with devastating poverty. Moreover, my parents are very strict and disciplining individuals; they both loved to help others regardless of their physical endurance, mental health, or economic stability. As role models, they reared me in the belief that my goals in life should include lending a helping hand to others. Furthermore, my empathy for others has encouraged me to aid those in need. As a result, I plan to pursue a career in medicine in the hopes of becoming a cardiologist. Furthermore, I plan on returning to Laredo, Texas (my home town) …show more content…
If I get accepted into the program, I will then go to UT Health Science Center to complete my M.D. Upon acceptance to this program, I plan to study Pre-Med at TAMIU for two reasons. First, I have heard that the FASTS program at TAMIU is excellent and prepares its students for medical school. In addition to this, studying at TAMIU will enable me to be close to my family. By going into this program, I will be exposed to the practice of medicine, attend academic seminars to strengthen my medical school preparation, and learn communication skills that are needed in order to become a successful doctor. Medicine is an intriguing field and one in which I hope to realize my dreams of helping others in need. In addition, I plan to pursue my dream of becoming a cardiologist. As I have matured along the way, I have realized how many people are in need, and I want to be that doctor who ministers to those in need. I want to be that doctor who makes a difference to inspire others to have a helping mindset. I want to be that doctor who gives hope when it seems that all hope is

On March 27, 2015, Facebook and Twitter were inundated with the message “Daundre Barnaby, An Olympic Sprinter from Weaver, Drowns.” When I first read this message, I was heart-broken. I am David Shane Dobyns, twenty-two years of age; I was born in Puyallup Washington, August 17th 1994 at the Good Samaritan hospital. My family consists of mother, father, and brother who live in Germany. Growing up was as idyllic as one could suspect, in my prepubescent years we moved to the states in search of “gods’ plan” for us, starting a church in Texas. The church siphoned our resources to the brink of poverty, but we were happy all the same. Through the eyes of a jaded 5-year-old, everything was but a perfect utopia, neither a problem nor a care in the world.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

As my Mathematics professor always says, “Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.” For some people who live in the third world countries such as Ethiopia and Sudan, even a few dollars or a cup of water is a great help. However, in today’s society, most people only care about themselves and forget to think of others in need. Less and less people are willing to help others. Moreover, some people once accepted help, but they forget that many are like them that need help.…

The study of medicine has evolved over thousands of years from something of an enigma governed by religious spheres to the highly specialized science of preventing, treating, and curing diseases of the human body. While my interest in becoming a physician did begin with a love of natural sciences, it has, like the study of medicine, evolved into something much larger than topics covered in my general biology courses. I want to work with people on managing their conditions, learn from doctors before me as well as patients, and be a positive influence despite often-negative diagnoses. Individuals all have different reasons for wanting to attend medical school, but I believe that we are either called to practice medicine or we are not. I am drawn…

I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…
